It's the snow tires and the limited slip differential only offered in M cars thats doing it.

The 335i isn't useless in the snow, you just need proper tires. I take mine (with snow tires of course) skiing in VT several times a year and have yet to have any problems. Even going through several inches of fresh powder (no LSD either btw).
