M5 reliability and maintanence costs

Hi all,

I have someone who may be contemplating an F10 M5 purchase. What is the reliability like on the 2013's? What are the issues that typical cause a headache and what are some running maintenance costs that are typical?

Car would be coming with remainder of factory warranty.

Thanks Ahead

Squeaky brakes (will not be fixed... live with that) and rear tires need be replaced frequently

As long as the car is under warranty and within 50k miles everything is covered. Pretty sure you can extend the maintenance with BMW but don't know if it's worth it.

My AC went out in august of course. It took 2 weeks to get the part but thankfully they charged it with some coolant but that took time. Although they zeroed out warranty repairs, I tried to take a peek at the charges. Let just say, you want to have a warranty.

2013s some had oil issues where they consume a lot, much like the e92 v8s... Shouldn't be much of a problem.

If you can't stomach 400 dollar tires and probably what will be expensive rotors and pads outside warranty then it might not be the car for you... But other than those two things VERY reliable.

And that oil issue (adding a quarter every 1000 mile or so) is not a big deal!!! it's just $8-9 solution! I don't even bother myself to go to dealer because it costs me more any gas station has the oil ...

My dealer only charged me like 6 bucks a quart :/ I still have a few because I over stocked.

maintenance is usually included for 4 years , so check the in service date, though recently BMW started a new policy that the free 4 year maintenance only applies for first owner, make sure you clarify this with a BMW dealer in writing before you buy a used 2013

Haven't heard that before. That may be a big deal for those that like to buy used. Would that even be for CPO cars?
