Do Not Recommend Hitting Objects on Highway

This morning on the way to work in the darkness on a deserted stretch of highway, I saw something at the last second and Bang! Drivers side tires are toast. Rear wheel badly damaged, front not as bad. Yes, that is a little brake dust. Any wheel experts think I can keep the front wheel? Thanks for any advice.

Similar issue happen to me. Pitch black outside, ended up driving over a construction bolt to attach the metal plates to the street ! Caused major damage !

I didn’t chance repairing, just ended up replacing the wheel. Snagged a rim for $300 eBay

Wow! Glad you’re okay and nothing worse happened. If it was my car I would buy two wheels in good condition off of eBay.

For a wheel to crack like that I’d say it weakened it’s structural integrity to the point that I wouldn’t trust it. Depends how you drive though, if you never hit 100+ mph it could be okay.

Alternatively, you could file an insurance claim to get two new wheels and tires. But it could be at the cost of an accident report on the carfax + deductible.

Yes sir, insurance indicated they would file it as a collision which could possibly result in points on my policy, and as you indicated potential carfax issues, etc. Fortunately, I had purchased the tires fairly recently with added insurance through Discount Tire so they are replacing them at minimal cost. Tracking down a rear wheel, hopefully front is ok.

I actually have two spare OEM fronts. I want to keep one in case of emergency, but willing to let one go for a fair price if you decide you want to replace that front. I am in Long Island, NY. PM me if interested.

That's nothing, an alloy wheel repairer will repair that small damage and check if its in true. The 343m's you have are forged, tough and light. If it were the more heavier 601M cast alloy wheels you see on Comp's then they would be for throwing away.

Fortunately, I could use the front wheel and was able to source a new rear wheel quickly. Two new tires were mounted last Friday and I was up and running by Saturday morning. I feel very fortunate to have escaped with only minor damage. Thanks guys!
