Advice on damaged rim
Long story short had a nail in tire brought it to dealership to file a claim because I have insurance tire was back ordered so they returned the car back to me until tire comes in.. I get home corner of my eye see my rim damaged from them called them up they went through the pictures and seen it was damaged. 2 weeks passes tire arrives bring it in now their telling me they are not responsible for it blah blah blah told them to mount tire and let me know when it's ready.. I'm going to go there when it's ready and snap on the manager but before I go in want to know some advice you guys can give. On the rim I had a small scratch that they made worse and they're machine just made a bigger scratch

I had a similar experience with my M6. the rear tires (surprisingly) needed changing so I took it to the local dealership. They ordered and then replaced the rear tires. I noticed that they had literally scratched both rims all the way around when I got it home. Called them and told them and brought the car back to them. They offered to repair it and I agreed. The repair was rubbish and wasn't anywhere near as a good as the original finish so after a lot of arguing with management they replaced both rims at no cost. It was a real pita but I'm glad I didn't settle for less. My advice is to go straight to management. Anyone else is unlikely to get you to the same outcome.

rim ??
Well, so it happens that I do own a tire store and from the picture ( that speaks a 1000 words ) what I can tell is this.
If they were dismounting the tire and chipped the paint work, it is cheese because you should always remove ( or start removing ) and finish mounting by the right side of the sensor ( valve ), in this case it seems like someone was trying to use lever type tire machine and pressed the rim with the tire bar ( don't want to be to technical ) and paint just chipped of, but... it is done on the left side of the stem, which is the wrong way why ? Cause in your case as you are lifting the tire bead over the lip , you may lock the tire under the sensor, which will in effect put more pressure on the tire and rim. which may cause damage to the lip of the rim muuuuuch easier. This is how you brake the sensors easily as well ( especially if you are not experienced in the field ) There is another scratch that was not related to the chipping though and it looks like a curb rush, and with that that is why the dealer is trying to down play the whole situation. since you already have had some damage to the rims they see as you are trying to get ( your mistake ) curb rush fixed with their money. Your rims ( to me ) look like they have been refinished as well. I have not yet seen a satin black original M5 wheel like that ( I could be wrong ) . If the quality of the primer ( grey + white clearly visible ) over all prep work was not done 100% that will effect the over all endurance of the finish. For the softer finishes it will take just a bit of pressure and paint will literally flake off especially with hard bead of a Pirelly tire. One last thing is that that tire is made in 2015, hope you have seen that and are OK with that. Not trying to defend or offend anyone here, just saying what I see ( I could be proven wrong as always ) My boys ( workers ) every so often will get me to fix customers rims just because of mistake or wrong action taken ( scratch or other damage ) But.... I have always fixed it ( problem ) to the satisfaction of the customer. It is my opinion easier to fix the problem and even loose few good dollars in the process but keep the good name. Hope that helps ( or at least puts a light on the subject ) Cheers ! |

I had 2 wheels receive curb rash from dealer and they took full responsibility no questions asked when I showed them the issue and paid to have them refinished at the HRE factory at a cost of $250/wheel. They however in mint condition before the service visit. So I think they should fix the damage they did but the pre-existing damage.
