They do great work and excellent service . If I wouldn't live in Boston I'd have them work
on my cars .

I'm a newjack to the radar talk, so slap me with a trout.

Question: is there any custom installed valentine 1's avail?

Also I see the only difference between the Beltronics STIR+ and the escort passport 9500ci is the ability to finer tune the Ka band to limit only to what your local law enforcement actually scans with to eliminate false positives?

Anything else I am missing? I have an escort battery operated unit now (whatever the best one was 2 years ago, the solo2(?). I really like the custom installed ones. Is there a 'serious' difference between these V1's/beltronics stir+ and my old solo2 ?

I just can't stand the detector flopping around on the windshield or having to put it away so thieves don't see it...

Have to disagree. Detector is not gonna save you from laser. Once the detection system detected the laser, it's already too late, the cop already got a reading about your speed. Only way to save you from the laser is laser jammer.

As far as I know these two are like chalk and chese. The 9500ci has built in GPS and uses an online database which you can update, whereby it warns you of speed traps oncoming, red light cameras, speed cameras etc. It will also remember false alerts and automatically label them and not give you an audible warning of them unless their frequency/strength changes the next time you pass the area. THAT is the safe way avoid false alerts. Fine tuning and limiting your detector to ver specific frequencies etc is bad business IMO. Cops arent all dumb, and at least here in the Carolinas they often switch stuff up. They know people have detectors. One of my boys got a really handsome ticket because he ignored an X band on the i85 not too long ago.

This sounds like what happened with the side assist in my old Audi S4; even with the side assist turned off only the actual display is cancelled, the radar remains active. The answer for me was to identify which fuse was used for the radar and pull it. Some say turning off POP stopped the V1 interference but the fuse trick worked for me.

Best defense IMHO is without a doubt the combo of a V1 and front/rear LI protection.

If you turn off everything but laser and Ka band (what CHP use in CA), does V1 still freak out with Driver Assist? I like those features and don't want to have to pull a fuse just to have a functional CHP early warning system...

Local knowledge is really important.

For instance I drive without X band because X band is not authorized for law enforcement use in Florida. Even if a LEO uses it, the ticket won't stand.

However in rural georgia i have to switch it back on.

Wow that's very fricking interesting. Good to know. Seems they all work over here. Man I just leave everything on. And my 9500iX just records all the fake. i drive with my Excort on highway 24/7 no matter where I am
and the Detector just figures out the rest. That's why I like the built in GPS. I won't trade it. Only time I get hammered with false alerts is if I go on some road trip to some other city I don't usually drive through and obviously that's one time in a million.

Question.
How do yuo turn off different bands using a V1? I would like to give that a try tomorrow. Also what is the "POP"?

It is an ultra-fast, instant-on method of radar gun operation using existing radar frequencies. Radar guns operating in POP mode can get a speed reading of a target vehicle so fast that most radar detectors will not consistently signal an alert. At this time, there are very few radar guns in service in the U.S. capable of POP mode operation.

Thanks for the clearification on the POP. so how about the other question I had is it really possible to turn off certian radar bands with a V1?

Also has anyone talked to V1 about the driver assist issue?

Waiting for the V1 disciples to shed some light on that part. I'm a strict Escort dude myself.

The V1 Manual is pretty easy to understand to see how to change the mode.... You don't turn off specific bands you select how sensitive it is to certain ones.

Escort allows you to turn off X-band radar since so few municipalities still use it and the false alerts from garage doors and burglar alarms mean that you're probably going to ignore an X-band alert anyway.

I learned from Stealth.Pilot on another thread that the Beltronics STiR has the ability to filter out specific Ka-band segments. That's an incredibly useful feature that will all but eliminate false alarms even if you are traveling a route that is new and thus, can't rely on GPS for pre-marked locations. Just find out what frequency your local law enforcement uses with the built-in detect mode and filter the rest.

Too bad the highway patrol in my neck of the woods also runs LIDAR.

Wow, yal really have balls. Are you really that confident that you can find out the specific frequency your local law uses and filter out all the others and drive safe happily ever after? Like that can't possibly change over time? Or like they can't/won't use a different frequency some holiday weekend or some crap when they're bored or something? I dunno man..maybe I'm just paranoid. But it's not worth the risk to me. Any chirp that makes it through my GPS filter, I slow for. Could be X band. i don't care. Much better for my peace of mind. If I asked, I'm sure I would hear they don't use X in NC, yet like I said my boy got a ticket off an x. I choose paranoia!

Agree with what Nytrus has stated here, I used to do some moonlighting at a rural hospital in eastern North Carolina, X band was in strong use there, I'm with Nytrus, I never ignore any signal, best to slow down and check it out if the signal isn't on lock out.

I ran a Laser Interceptor group buy on the other forums when I got my first laser ticket and needed some jammers.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=688361

Do you guys want me to email Cliff and ask if the same type of group buy can be run for you guys as well?

I really want to to a LI jammer, but it's illegal here in Texas. If I have it on my car, even it jammed their laser gun, the cops will still stop me give me a ticket.

Agree 100% Good to know you're a fellow physician. Can't give the V1 guys any advice since they don't have GPS lockout. *shrug*
