The case for RWD cars. 2018 GT2RS sets Ring World Record of 6:47.3s

No AWD needed here. Like I said, AWD is for cheaters.

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...mage=100624790

It's even faster than the AWD Huracan Performante.

If F1 can perform at RWD so can we. This is an electronics game. Electronics will only get better.

F1 isn't RWD because it's better. F1 is RWD because 4WD is banned.

F1 has a lot of rules to slow down the cars and make them harder to drive (no active suspensions, no active anti roll bars, no active aero, no ABS, no traction control, no V8 engine, etc.)

BTW in Lemans LMP1 class where you can do whatever you want, the winners tend to be AWD cars.

I didn’t say RWD was better. Read again.

I remember Willams F1 engineer once said if F1 is truly no limit, by now cars could be pulling 7G + (easily 2000 HP, AWD, all wheel steering, possibly 6 wheels, and etc) at the corners and drivers probably would have to wear some sort of a G-suit like pilots in Jets in order not to pass out while driving.

If you haven't noticed current F1 cars are almost pulling 7g's in corners now...

Yeah but that's only a few corners on a few tracks. I think the engineers was saying it will be every where and even greater Gs at braking. There was even an accompanying drawing of the car, 6 wheels, but ugly if you ask me.

Agree. Still think it's amazing that cars pull almost 7g's in some corners now, too bad the sound isn't what it used to be a decade ago with v10 era..
We'll see whether 2021 brings an improvement in sound department..

Yes Williams actually developed a four wheel drive six wheel F1 car. Here is a picture of that car. Williams took it to testing, broke the lap record at a couple of circuits (by a wide margin) and the FIA banned it before the season started (because there would be no competition with this car).

Other than off the line and wet traction 4WD seems to have little bearing on performance other than adding weight and sapping power. I think the Porsche just demonstrated that.

Is becoming as useless as a manual transmission as cars get faster and faster for cheaper.

Is it cool to see the driving ability yea. Same as when a manual car sets a record. Would I choose to have it if I had the AWD option? Nope.

Porsche didn't demonstrate that. They demonstrated they created a very fast enthusiast car.

If they developed an AWD GT2RS I am certain it would be faster.

It's not just about launch. It's about torque vectoring and exit speed. An AWD car can carry more speed through a corner and out of it.

Porsche handicaps the Turbo S with Summer Tires (PS4S) while the GT3RS Cars get wider and grippier Sport Cups. Put them on the same tires and the Turbos will crush the GT cars anywhere.

I guess we will agree to disagree.

You have to compare apples to apples. Do you have data that supports your case for the same car - e.g. Carrera S vs Carrera 4S?
