Tuned BMW F10 M5 (PP Performance) vs. Ferrari 458 on Yas Marina Track

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi guys,

I wanted to share this video of Mathias from Grip (a German TV show) being challenged in Abu-dhabi on the Yas marina circuit. He drives a tuned F10 M5 against a Ferrari 458. Closer than you might think!

The M5 is tuned by PP-Performance to 640HP and 780 NM torque. Goes from 0-100kmh in 3.9 seconds and 310kmh top speed.

Here's the whole episode: http://rtl2now.rtl2.de/grip-das-moto...yer=1&season=0

I'm shocked, I've driven the 458 on track, and can tell you it is truly amazing....I really can't believe that the M5 even came close????

I have both the M5 and a 458, (and a GT-R), and as much as I like the M5 and think it performs well (for a 4300 pound family sedan), the two cars are not even close on the track (or anywhere else). I do not understand German, so do not know if they explained certain circumstances in that test, but the 458 iw WAAY faster on the straights, and corners much better.
On the track that I drive the 458 is about 10% faster at the end of each straight compared to the M5. In fact, the 458 is faster than the GT-R by a significant amount on the straights, but the GT-R is faster on the curves.

M5 - 1/4 mile - 12 seconds at 122-124 mph. G force in cornering .90-.95.

458 - 1/4 mile - 11 seconds at 129 mph. G force in cornering easily over 1 G.

Have to agree here, I have yet to drive the M5 but there's absolutely no way that the M5 can keep up with the 458. The 458 on track is simply brilliant!!

guys, just to remind you: they said the M5 was tuned by pp-performance to 620HP and 750 NM. I dont know if such a tuning would help the M5 keep up with the ferrari.

So, finally some Grip in this forum. Regardless of the "german" problem..

Great episode, some really nice x6m action before the m5.

VERY Impressive!! That M5 dominated, and to those saying how the 458 is faster etc.... Let me remind you that the M5 is a family sedan costing less than half of what the Ferrari costs. If I was Ferrari I would be very embarrassed after this video especially at 9:15. Great job BMW M. Now if the M5 sounded like the 458, then it would be too perfect.

ive driven a 458 around a track and there is no way that even a tuned 4k+ lbs. sedan can keep up with it. either the guy driving the ferarri was babying it or bmw has made the performance bargain of the century

With the tune it is putting out more torque and HP than the 458. It is heavier so it actually works out to be very close.

+1

not an expert here, but it also seemed like the driver of the 458 did not really drive the car to its fullest potential. There were a couple corners that he completely missed the apex and went really wide.

All in all, worth the 10 minutes even though it was in German. Guess the 458 owners should walk with a bottle of coolant each time they hit the track!!

LOL @ people commenting that an ///M5 won't be able to keep up...it just did. In front of your very eyes.

Even the 458 instructor was dumbstruck by how the 600kg heavier ///M5 was so hard to get away from, even if it was tuned with 60 horses more. That is impressive as f.

If I were a Ferrari driver and a (mildly) tuned ///M5 family sedan hung on to my supercar like that I'd feel a bit sheepish...

I say mildly because even G-Power's Stage 1 tune pushes the ///M5 to 640 hp / 575 lb-ft torque (780Nm) +80hp / 74lb-ft

Grip has excellent videos, the 800PS G-Power E63 ///M6 is one of my favourites ever.

Well done PP Performance. Can only imagine what else you can do to the ///M5 and ///M6 with a bit more extensive work (which will undoubtedly cost less than a 458)

In my humble opinion it all depends on the driver and the experience. Nice track and video clip, however, put a different driver in the Ferrari and he would have left the M5 further behind then was the case in this video clip.

Still thanks for sharing the clip, nice footage.

Hey man...read the post. The M5 was performance tuned and not stock. Stop gloating. OK thanks. No BMW is a match for any Ferrari.

I saw the show yesterday and it was awesome to see when they had the X6M on the dyno and blasting out fireballs after the pulls. Funny to see the testfahrer from the show get flashed by the cops at over 300KPH . That X6M was a beast!!!

The M5 and Ferrari segment was very good also. Not so surprised that the Ferrari overheated in that 110f plus weather.

they say that the naturally aspirated engine of the Ferrari is struggling with power loss because of the sweltering heat.

Track temperature is about 65 degrees Celsius.

I'm sorry but first of all are these two guys professional racers? With all the drifting around the track its hard to really take this race seriously. I can tell the M5 has much more power than stock but I need to see a proper race, done by equally qualified professional racers to really see the outcome. This test seems to be more for entertainment than numbers.

All that being said...WOW!!! That M5 is a Beast!

Anyone have an english subtitle version?
