Have a 14' M5 with comp pack, bone stock. Was thinking about getting spacers to enhance the look. Did go over all the threads. Maybe will go with 12/12 v 12/10. Have 20's 343. My question is where would be the best place to get these installed? Would you ask your dealership to do it or take it to any shop (Indy or pep)

Indy shop or your dealer will install. Simple install.
Make sure it is cleaned of all debris and torque correctly. Just my 2cents, I would get the wheels rebalanced after. Ps. I'm running 12f 12r and love it

Thanks guys. What spacers do you recommend BMS or Macht schnell?

Brand really doesn't matter. Just get anything with good quality. 6061 grade aluminum. I have BMS FYI.

Hi if you have a jack and wrench it really is very easy and if you do it yourself you can make sure the hub is nice and clean and make sure that longer bolt threads go in and out nicely before installation. I always like a little copper slip or similar on the threads and gives me peace of mind. You can also have a good look at your tyres too !
With the small amount of money saved a bottle of wine for the evening ;-) |

I disagree with the copper slip on the lug bolts: it will allow the bolts to go in smoother with less torque. So when you torque as normal you are stretching the threads too much. Safe to use many other places, like on the spacers, just not on the threads.

I am a qualified automotive engineer (degree and worked in F1) so I am cool with a bit of lube on an aftermarket bolt, rather than I think it's tight and the below average thread has bound up too early. But you're technically right regarding clean and dry. The torque is an estimate of bolt tension with dry threads in this case. BMW will need to cater for the unadjusted air wrenches used by spotty teenagers in tyre shops, so the bolts will I am sure have a huge leeway before stretch I would however avoid anything on the back of the spacer as this will cushion the face and with good oils there will be a trapped film, rather than metal to metal. |

I'm going 12/12 as well. Any overt differences in the way car handles v stock such as steering feel or change in cornering dynamics and ride stability?

Explain to me how wheel spacers effect the balance of a wheel.

It doesn't, but if the wheel has previous balance issues or anything it multiplies once you add the spacers. Bored ? Going through the forum adding unnecessary comments ? Cool. Kudos bro
