P-Car is an exciting choice too. As much as I drool over the 991 GT3, my main problem with it, is that it still looks like every other 911 on the road. Where as a Lambo Huracan looks like a Lamborghini.

Exactly. Every regular BMW model, 10 years from now, from the 1-Series to the 9-Series will pretty much be either a hybrid or a full electric vehicle if that speculation comes to fruition that BMW will fully phase out all internal combustion engines by the year 2025. Where will this leave ///M 10 years from now? Who knows, but I just can't see myself buying a 650hp hybrid assist 6cyl Twin Turbo M5, or a hybrid assist 4cyl Twin Turbo M3/M4. BMW isn't going in the direction of hybrid assist technology like the LaFerrari and McLaren P1 where they still have amazing sounding combustion engines. Instead I fear that the future of ///M cars will be leaning more towards the BMW i8 and upcoming i9. I don't want the emotion of my future performance car coming just from blistering 0-60 times or high lateral g performance, but also the natural sound of real engine, not 100% artificial sound.

My desire is a small discplacement Twin or Tri Turbo V-10 engine in the next M5 or M6. Say a 4.0L Twin Turbo V10 making 550hp with another 70hp made by 2 electric motors powering the front wheels. Unfortunately V-10's make a lot of CO2 even if you downsize them, which is the reason for all this hybrid and electric technology in the first place, to reduce CO2 emissions by 2020-2025 mandates. Sigh.

I'm all for AWD. It gives me more confidence as a road car, after all M5's aren't exactly track cars. I would get an M2 or something lighter for that. With all that torque, you don't want to be on the front page of jalopnik jumping over a median. Look at the Porsche Turbo, R8, and Lambo's - AWD isn't that bad. If you add the 4 wheel steering, much like the GT3 and Turbo, man it will make this car drive smaller in size.

The current M5 weigh about 4400 lb. Adding two electric motors for front wheels and battery already increases the weight couple hundreds pounds and you are at 4600-4700 lb...then something about 700-800 reducing the weight to achieve 3900 lb? ... The current Tesla P85D weigh about 4900 lb...

And even if they go that route of i8 with the next M5 with lots of CF, bigger engine, bigger size, more seat and doors , etc... the price will be in 150-200k range!!! Who's gonna pay 150k+ for M5?

That's exactly my point! The way i8 is built (CF, DC motors , etc) for 135k, pushes the price of M5 to 150k+ if M5 is supposed to be build based on that route... the next M5 even with no major change is already at 100k range...look at the current X5/X6M... they are not a lot lighter compare to previous generation... almost the same engine (15 more power, 50 more torque, but the same 4.4 TT V8 platform) and no electric motors or something but ~$10K more expensive than previous generation...

In case you missed the viral video. With AWD, stupid is less likely to happen.

Hmm, I'm not sure that AWD, DSC, drivers assist, parking assist, LED headlights, moonroof, hybrid motors or CF chassis and drivetrain is going to help that chap. Maybe a Smartcar with 30 mph speed limiter will.

Damn this just may have just settled the lease vs buy question for me. I would like to see AWD in the M5 with a heavy rear bias. And with the weight savings it looks even more appealing.
