I'm confused.

It says full merino includes Black Nappa leather upper dash and upper door trim

However the Individual Leather is ony Full leather on M6 but is extended on the M5.

So if you want Platinum or Champagne, you only get extended. If you want full leather, you have to settle for Silverstone. How dumb is that?

I think the important thing to take from this bulletin is that you can get a black leather upper dash for Individual color interiors...Just going to cost you more money.

Or you can buy a non individual full leather for $1500 less.

Any idea idf there is a change of getting the leather dash with the Extended leather. I like the Orange but think it is too much in the Full option version. My idea would be to go with the Extended then upgrade the dash/ Thoughts?

It mentioned Imola Red, but IR wasn't an option for the E60 right? So something like a techno violet can also be doable?

Not really. Individual interiors on the M5 include everything from Full except the dashboard and upper door trim. It still includes leather on the lower dash, front seat-backs, etc. It's much closer to Full than Extended, but they still call it Extended to avoid confusing people I guess....

You could probably do this by going through the full Individual process for your order, but you'd come out paying a lot more, so you'd have to REALLY want it. Fyi though, I got to see the M5 recently and the leather on the dash and upper door trim feels cheap. It's thin, hard, and plasticky, not thick, plush, and soft as I felt it should be. If you've ever touched the transmission tunnel leather on an M3 that had Extended leather, it feels exactly like that. I was disappointed.

I'm guessing they don't do that because it'd never be a perfect match; metallic paint just doesn't adhere to cloth anywhere near the same way as it does to plastic and metal, so I think it might end up looking tacky for being close but no cigar. I wonder what the difference is between the black soft top and Moonlight Black though; the configurator image doesn't change at all when Moonlight is selected.

To me it is placing cost in the wrong place to put leather on lower dash but not on the upper dash and upper door panels. The upper dash is far more visible than the lower dash.

Agreed, but unless you get black (which isn't an option in Individual), the lower dash addition will be far more noticeable since it changes the color of that location of the car, which would otherwise have been black. But like I said above, the upper dash leather is pretty crappy anyway.

The upper dash leather is Nappa. It is not as nice as Merino. But not as crappy as a plastic upper dash.

Plastic dashboards do not belong in $100k cars.

Carbon fiber is standard on the M6 and aluminum is standard on the M5; neither is available as an option on the other. I wish they'd show up as options in the configurators though so if you play with other trims you can get back to the standard option.

Personally I thought the carbon fiber on the M6 I saw was pretty hideous, not as bad as the previous gen but very close. It's just sad that the only other options are wood. It didn't help that the center console trim piece in the M6 is enormous, looks all sprawled out.

Thx for the clarification. For the M5, sux that:

1. Carbon Fiber interior trim is not an option
2. Choosing individual leather, you do not get leather dashboard and upper door trim (yet on the M6 you do)

My order has been confirmed for Cohiba Individual with leather upper dash. I am not sure of the exact cost but I did check off both Cohiba Individual and full merino. Sales guy confirmed that BMW would build the car, but it did add an extra month to the order.

I wanted the cohiba pretty bad, and the plastic dash looks like shit and would have probably been a deal breaker. Also pissed that there is not a carbon fiber option for the M5. I have the carbon fiber on my X5M and I love it. The piano finish is the best of a bad situation.

Bunch of questions:
Do you know how this individual option was able to be ordered by your dealer? Was there a code or a selection that was able to be made at the time of the order?
Did this have to go through regional for pricing and/or approval?
How much was it to add the leather dash?
