First curb rash! Advise please.

Ironically this happened last week as I was demonstrating the top view camera function to a friend. Dooh! Guess I needed more practice. Anyways what you guys do/suggest?
1. Refinish the wheel, but the wheel shop I talked to said he has to take the wheel off meanwhile my car will remain jacked up overnite outside his shop. I didn't like that idea.
2. I've been thinking about powder coating my 601M wheels satin or gloss black and get a more aggressive look. This will take 4-5 days and my car will remain up on a lift.
3. Leave it alone. I've already almost gotten over it. Probably will get more in future. Maybe go for aftermarket wheels later!

I'm leaning towards option 2. What do you experts think? Thanks for your input!

Leave it alone; no one will notice or care about it really.

If you have a service like Wheels On Site in your area, they can refinish it while you are at work or at home, without having to remove your wheels. Usually takes one technician and their equipment in about 3 hours.

Choice 3 sounds about right. You'll probably get more in the future. They're just stock wheels anyway. I would fix them if they were aftermarket rims.

P.S. Sucks you're not local. I can probably fix that for ya. Good luck.

Exactly. I have accepted the fact that wheels WILL get messed up.

And quite frankly...Incan hardly see the damage in the close up picture!!

I've been told by both the dealership and independent wheel shop that the wheel needs to be removed, refinished, repainted. And will take at least a day to do properly. I would on the other hand love to find a good mobile service in my area if that was doable. But so far no luck!

I've been thinking about powder coating my wheels (saw an M6 GC on the forum with sweet looking gloss black 601M wheels) and maybe I'm using this as an excuse to do it!

I had worse damage that then and had it refinished and remounted for 150 bucks in Vancouver. 1 year later you would never tell it was worked on.

Where in NJ are you? Madison Car Wash (Morris County) has a mobile wheel refinisher that is on-site two or three days a week. Give them a call.

I'm in Somerset county but can easily get there as long as they are good. Thanks for the info!

I can't tell from the pic... is the edge a polished finish or machined finish?

I can try to help you out with a DIY.

It's machined finish.

So you're just the other side of 78 from me. What color is your M5? I've seen a Silverstone one out King Georgd Road a couple times.

I use Flemington BMW.

I tore one of my wheels up about six months ago when I entered a damaged driveway at night that had uneven concrete and I knew I was in trouble when I heard that horrible scraping sound. I took it into a local repair shop, left it overnight and they redid the wheel for $200. When I came to pick it up it was parked outside so close to another car that I could barely get in. Luckily, there was no door ding. Since then I curbed the wheel again, this time just a minor blemish, but I'm afraid to take it in because the car may get damaged by just being there. I've decided not to repair this one and when I see the rash I use it as a reminder to not be so anal about the car. I say don't fix it. Cars get driven, s... happens.

I have MCB. I use JMK. How is the service center at Flemington? JMK has M certified center, but I'm not sure what that really means.

Yeah, I definitely don't want my car left jacked up overnight outside the shop to get the rim repaired. If I decide to repair then I will likely remove the wheel myself and take just the wheel to the shop for repair.

Just find a mobile wheel repair company. They come via a van with all the tools to get the curb rash repaired on sight. Pretty sure they do it with the wheel and tire on the car.

If you can find one online call dealerships.. they use them.

I just fixed my HRE for $30 at a wheel repair shop in LA. Waited and watched them for 30 min. It came out very good.

This must have been a very simple refinishing without any coating that requires time to cure. I'm glad it worked out for you at very low cost on a high end wheel!
