License Plate Frame - Thoughts?

My license plate will be arriving shortly, and I need to select a frame. Exterior is Sapphire Black Metallic, with 35% ForumulaOne Pinnacle tint on sides and rear, and iND color matched side vents and reflectors (pending front grills when available). I've narrowed it to 2 options, but am certainly open to other suggestions. One is the iND color matched frame. The other is flat Tuf-Shield that is smoke tinted. See images below. Despite the heavy black/non-chrome exterior, I'm not necessarily seeking a "blacked-out" look. However, I'm leaning slightly toward the smoked cover. I'm afraid it might look tacky, though. Thoughts?

I wouldn't get a tinted plate cover because it's illegal and will give police another reason to stop you. If you are going to break license plate law, the most aesthetic solution is no plate at all!

If you want a legal plate setup, I would go for non body color. I think these body color matched frames look like a glued on body part instead of a frame.

My favorite frame is the matte black "powered by M" frame sold by BMW.

No plate it is! In my area, these smoked covers aren't too uncommon. I do agree that they do attract additional police attention, however. I'd prefer to avoid any additional "M" "BMW" or other wording. Carbon fiber, perhaps? Thank you for your input.

That's a great idea. Have a look at this one. It's light and high quality.

I did that too. It took about a month and a half until I finally got pulled over for it. Luckily I truly did not have my plates in from the DMV yet and the cop let me go with no tickets even though my tint was already on. BarryB witnessed the whole thing! Lol!

OP, you could always go with the old TricPlate as well. Over out west in the liberal states, like California, Nevada, etc, you could probably easily get away with this, but over in the East with the Nazi police states like Virginia, Indiana, etc, they'd still probably nail you for it.

I always put the minimal style BMW license plate frames, paint matched to my paintwork, on all my cars. They also come with caps that cover the screws.
IND sells it, and I am pretty sure its the same exact one as the pictured grey M3.

The license plate frames with the tinted covers.. I would personally not go that route. There is a AW M5 in my area that runs a similar license plate frame. Not really my style. Also, it can and will most likely make you a target for getting pulled over. So that alone is not really worth it.

That's really nice. It would be perfect if it didn't have the manufacturer's name engraved.

That's pretty slick. They need to design one that flashes an alternative/fake plate (I'm sure the law would love that).

Happy with my color matched frame. Did the same in the front with a color matched mount.

Can you post a pic of the front? I'm trying to convince myself to mount the front plate holder. Thanks.

Here ya go. I know a lot of people have issues w/ drilling into the front bumper but I really would prefer to not give cops a reason to pull me over. I'm used to it and although it does detract a bit from the beautiful front lines of the car, it really is no big deal. The color matched mount as well as frame coupled w/ a simple plate and a clear cover did the trick for me. I personally think it looks better than many of the substitutes people use - off center mounts or keeping the plate on the front dash etc.

These are iND frames BTW.
