Hit a deer :(
Well, I'm on vacation in Wisconsin and hit a deer. Car is leaking, so BMW Assist has been called to get it towed. I'm bummed. More will be coming I'm sure.

Damn sorry to hear! Of course it was in WI, the only "accident" I've ever had in my life was when a dear hit me here in southeast WI. It's one of the most frustrating things that can happen, I feel your pain.

Thank you all for the well wishes. It could have been worse. Fortunately, no one was hurt and airbags did not deploy. It was more of a side hit. The car was leaking fluid and in the dark Wisconsin country roads, I couldn't tell what it was, so I called BMW assist to have it towed. Thumbs up to BMW assist. They were fantastic.
I just finished checking it out here at the BMW dealer/collision center in Appleton. For those that know, Bergstrom is huge here and they deal with a lot of high end brands. It looks like it will be fixed here, and after talking wth these guys, I feel much better. They've been awesome. I know it's just a car, and thankfully no one was hurt, but it's still a sickening feeling. In 24 years of driving, I've never had an accident, or mad a claim on my insurance for that matter. The damage is to the front and drivers side. Bumper cracked, grills shot, headlamp busted out, and front quarter panels seems to have taken the brunt. It appears the leaking fluid was the washer fluid from the headlight washer, but the quarter panel is damaged enough that it rubs the wheel. I know it'll be fixed up and good as new, but still doesn't take he pain away! Oh, and for those wondering, yes I did have night vision on and BMW night vision with animal detection DID work, just too late. The deer came from the side. Had it been future in front, I'm convinced it would have warned me in time to react. All I recall is seeing the big flashing re dumping deer symbol in the HUD, but by then it was too late. Well, here are a few pics. I'm trying to do this from my iPhone so it's not easy. I've got a rental car now and will be heading back to Chicago in a few. |

Sad to hear that. I have had the experience of rabbits and other small creatures on the road but where my Night vision (passenger recognition system) helped. Though have not had the experience of seeing a deer on the road, I managed to sound the horn to warn the rabbit/other creatures of my approach. In one situation, I had to really slow down and stop the car as the damn rabbit just froze in front of the road -- I'm glad I had ordered the "pedestrian recognition system (night vision)" even though friends told me that it is something useless as I live in the city -- although I travel a lot to upstate NY and PA.

Sorry to hear that man, bad luck. But I'd say don't worry too much, I'm sure you'll get it repaired in no time. It's a mint new car and be happy that you're fine and healthy yourself. Hope you get your beast back in no time! Btw did the deer warning in night vision appear on your HUD? I've had my pedestrian recognition make the actual pedestrian appear and flashing on HUD.
