SLX Vs Edge

Is there any difference between Castrol SLX Professional LL01 5w30 and Castrol Edge Professional LL01 5w30?

Thanks

Castrol Edge Professional is better (maybe simply a marketing thing ?) & newer.

It has 'API - SL' rating which is what BMW recommends.

The SLX Professional is rating API - SJ which is lower than SL.

Before buying, just make sure the oil is marked 'Made in Germany' and it has the BMW LL-01 stamping at the back of the bottle. Don't buy the one the is Made in US.

What do you think of AMSOIL Signature 0W-30?

This post seems to rate it highly - based on the data. Mobil 1 looks pretty good in this test too.

I post the finding in another thread .... if you go to the bottom part of the page, the AMSOIL answer / comment is there .... Note: the article does not have a published date, therefore, I am not sure if the status has changed.

As far as Mobil 1, 0W40 European Formula is the only one recommended for BMW oil top up or change.

When I look at the Castrol Specs, the 0W-40 seems to meet BMW spec better than the OW-30. Specifically ACEA A3/B4.

When BMW does the complimentary break-in oil service at the VPC, what will they use?

Mine was changed with BMW Performance (aka Castrol) 5w30 (in Canada). Therefore, for US, it would be the same ...

Should I take my own oil if I want a 0w-40 or 0W-30 oil?

Wouldn't that be better. I heard if you like to drive in a cold start then the 0W oils are better.

True. "O" is better for winter. But then, the oil change is free, why spend more if you don't have to.

They are both API SL rated and ACEA A3/B3/B4
