Moving on to F90 .... 19' M5 Comp

After spending the last 6 years in F10 M5's (13' and 15') and thoroughly enjoying every minute of it, I've moved on to a 19' M5 Comp.

I spec'd the car in July and it arrived about a week ago:

Singapore Gray
Aragon Full Leather
B&W
CF Roof
All other options except CCB / NV

Enjoyed the many years on the F10 M5 forum and certainly learned a ton! Thanks to all who continue to contribute to this great community of M5 enthusiasts.

The new car is a monster plain and simple and the AWD is amazing!

Here are some pix; of both old and new!

Here is a thread I started on the F90 forum (I had only had the car for 2 days):

After driving the new car for about 100 miles and coming from two F10 M5's (13' & 15') here are some initial thoughts:

I selected SG / Full Aragon Interior (all options except CCB & NV).

Exterior:

Nothing truly revolutionary here; essentially feels like an F10 M5 LCI IMO but it's OK w/ me as I loved the design of that car.

The CE comes with the Gloss Black Front Kidney Grills, Side Gills, Mirrors and Rear Diffuser. I was on the fence regarding the Rear Diffuser as I was not sure how it would look but I'm pleased with the contrast against the Singapore Gray paint . I'm going to replace the front reflectors and the ones on the rear bumper and will also explore a CF Rear Center Diffuser to round out the look.

The springs give the car a better look IMO than the Base M5 as it sits 7mm lower; wheels are actually decent for OEMS. I've got H&R's ready to install and 21" wheels ordered so this will be only a temporary look for this car.

Black tips are also a nice touch on the exhaust.

Comp Exhaust has surprised me quite a bit and really comes to life in Sports + mode; for those who love the cracks and burbles this system does not disappoint. I'll more than likely experiment with an X pipe here and see if that's enough for me. I came from an Akra system on my F10 M5 and this isn't that far away in regards to tone. The cabin's so well-insulated it hard to tell w/o the windows down or the rear seats down. Either way, sounds pretty good.

Interior:

The seats in the F90 are a huge upgrade over the F10 seats and provide quiet a bit of adjustability and some interesting tech that allows you to see visually the adjustment you're making in real time. I have noticed that in the lowest setting the F90 seats feel higher than those in the F10; I'm experimenting with different combinations to see what feels best. I'm a tall dude (6'3") so this certainly doesn't make things better. The buttons on the seats are easily manipulated and well thought out IMO.

I like the fact that now you can unlock the doors from the doors versus the center button in the F10.

The cockpit is exceptionally well insulated and feels much more solid than that in the F10; zero rattles or noises (both inside and out).

The wireless charging is a very nice feature, unfortunately both of my iPhones are old AF so may need to buy some new phones.

I've not been able to configure everything and work my way through all of the menus yet but was able to program the mirrors to fold automatically when you lock the car; I believe this needed to be coded in the F10 if I'm not mistaken.

The different interior lighting color options are pretty cool as well.

I'm not an audiophile but the B&W sounds pretty nice; I basically copied the EQ Settings from another member who is an audiophile. Not a huge fan of the lights inside the window speakers; not sure if this can be changed.

Performance:

This car is an absolute animal; long gone are the days of traction issues and failing to get power to the ground. Where the F10 M5 excelled in roll racing this car does the roll and the dig exceptionally well. I'm a believer in breaking cars in hard so I've already pushed it fairly hard; no LC yet however.

AWD is a game changer in every sense of the word and is what sets this car apart; I've experimented with many different combinations including the AWD / AWD Sport and both do a great job of limiting slippage.

Unlike the feeling of the F10 M5 that required quite a bit of driver input, this car does all of it for you. I'm on the fence about how I feel here as better drivers no longer have meaningful advantage to some degree but this is technological progression I guess. Mastering LC may be all we need here .... the car feels exceptionally stable at high speeds and much more glued to the ground than the F10 M5.

The ZF8's not as bad as advertised; DCT was not going to be able to handle AWD so a TQ was the natural route. I only drive in Sport or Sport + so not sure how the tranny is in traffic / city driving. I've experimented both in auto "D" and "S" shifting via paddles and it's smooth as butter in both with gear changes being almost instantaneous. Odd feeling having to keep foot on the Brake but there's a hold button if you don't feel like doing it not really a big deal. The ZF8 is less jerky than than the DCT.

DCT worked well for the F10 and ZF8 does a good job in this platform IMO. DCT probably more of a true drivers tranny but that's just my opinion.

The suspension upgrades on the F90 CE work exceptionally well and allow the car to corner very aggressively for a car this heavy. The lower, stiffer springs work well as do the stiffer engine mounts, roll bars, toe links and negative front camber. Chasis feels stiff with minimal body roll on hard cornering; car feels very glued to the ground.

Brakes work well and no squeaking as of yet! I'll eventually go to a CC Brake pad as the dust is really bad.

Steering remains sub par IMO with a muted feel regarding driver / road feedback.

Cool man. Enjoy! And of course you picked a killer color. This might have sold me on the M Performance diffuser for my Singapore Grey to compliment my black edition RPI Exhaust and M trunk lid spoiler.

Thanks Kevin.

For now PPF, wheels, suspension and some IND reflector deletes. May do x-pipe on the M-Sport Exhaust as it sounds pretty from the factory.

I think for the time being I'm going to hold off on tune or piggy as the car's pretty fast and want to avoid issues with warranty.
