Looking to buy F10 M5 - warranty?

I've been lurking around for a while and found an M5 I'd be willing to buy. Unfortunately, the BMW dealership said the 2014 cannot be CPO'd and they don't offer an extended warranty and now i'm in a holding pattern.

Yes, I want an extended warranty for peace of mind (and the random rod bearing failures etc).

I've searched and called easycare, fidelity, and mercury. I had mercury for my E39 M5 but they no longer offer MBI for the M5. For Easycare and Fidelity, I have to go through a dealership and I've left messages for my local participating BMW finance departments. anyone have a contact or suggestions? anyone have a 2014/15 for sale?

I've run into this with a lot of 13's as well. I would push for the warranty. They CAN do it, they just don't want to pay the price. They may not think you are serious and they don't want to spend the $$ to do the CPO before you commit.

I did however run into one M5 where they were dancing around not doing the CPO because 'it doesn't need it', and ultimately found the car had zero oil changes for 18 or 19k miles. Literally the guy picked it up and just drove it, skipping the 1200 mile service. So that was the real reason. Make sure there's nothing like that, or the other restrictions preventing the CPO (i.e. non original body panels, etc).

edit - this link should work: http://cpo.bmwusa.com/certified-inve...howRadius=true

This shows 15 2014 M5's with CPO right now.

I have a 2014 and was in the same boat. I called BMW to ask about extended warranties. They quoted me $5990 for the warranty and $3500 for the maintenance. The main warranty was for 7yrs/100k, but the maintenance was for an additional two years and I can't recall the mileage.

I just purchased my 2014 only a few months ago and it is Certified Pre-Owned. It passed the CPO inspection (guidelines are pretty basic; you can find them if you Google it), even though my car was heavily, heavily modified by the original owner and returned to stock before the lease return. In fact, they "certified" the car even though it had a defective mechatronics unit in the DCT, a broken motor mount, and a leaking rear differential. But there was no body damage, tires were appropriate, and all factory equipment was present.

If they simply refuse to certify it, I would advise caution. As stated in this thread already, that usually means it's not eligible for certification, which is cause for concern.

I believe most extended warranties don't compare to the CPO coverage and convenience. For me, the BMW CPO is the only acceptable path for an ///M car. This car will have shit go wrong, it's just a matter of time. Aftermarket warranties can be tricky, and even assuming your repair is covered, it's a lot more leg work for the service center to deal with and I've seen them get pissy about it.

It's noteworthy to mention that purchasing a BMW (if certified after Jan 2014) from a non-BMW franchise store will void the certified warranty. This does not apply to private sales.

As to your concern that the 2015's don't transfer maintenance, this is only a concern for you if you're intent on performing the exact maintenance as described in the schedule, by a BMW dealer. If you do that, you will incur significant costs. However, if you're cool with doing things like oil changes, air filters, even brake fluid flushes yourself, this isn't so bad. You need to retain receipts for your materials to show the maintenance was performed.

I would target a 2014 model year, personally. Seems to be the sweet spot. Our cars are taking really hard hits in value right now. We're seeing guys get 58k trade offers on their 2014s. Since 2015s are still priced at retail $8k+ more than the 2014s, be prepared to lose your ass in value next year.

@BadBay8813's car is nice. You should seriously consider that car. Alpine White on Sakir Orange is a fantastic color combination. Not to mention he has performed some pricey mods to the car that pretty much ALL of us do, like the rear spoiler, iND cosmetic package, coding, NAVI updates, the gloss black 343M's, not to mention the clear bra. With his $118k MSRP, that car is very well loaded, less the carbon ceramics, rear entertainment, and night vision. And there's something positive to be said about buying a forum member's car, in that you'll always know the entire history of the car; nothing is a mystery (one would hope).

Since the Certified Pre-Owned option is only available at the time of retail, I assume you're referring to the BMW Extended Service Contract. These are pricey as all hell, and while the convenience factor is there, when I looked at this for my 535i, I got the distinct impression the coverage wasn't as well received as a CPO. But that's conjecture--I know no one that has utilized these programs.

right, most of the non-CPO cars cannot be CPO'd because a service (usually the 1200 mile one) wasn't done on time (like at 3000 miles). but they also won't sell aftermarket warranties either. i'm unsure if the car is ineligible because of something or because it is just an M (i think most warranties don't support M cars).

none of my local dealers who sell EasyCare or Fidelity returned my call. so CPO may be my only option.

BMW extended warranty and CPO are basically the same. The extended warranty is the only option for me because I didn't buy it at a BMW dealership. The price you'll pay for a CPO M5 can't be much cheaper than the price I paid for my M5+$5990 for coverage to 100k.

Route 66 offers a warranty on our cars. Although, brace yourself; $$$$.

The ESC is underwritten by BMW of North America, but there is a completely different BMW Extended Vehicle Protection Contract Limited Agreement that applies, as well as a number of tiers of coverage available. It's much more like a traditional "aftermarket" warranty, just underwritten by BMW.

I'm not suggesting that levels of coverage aren't comparable between the higher tiers of the ESC and a CPO car, and to your point, it is far more expensive, but they are different programs entirely.

A dealer once told me that the retail on CPO'ing a car is $3,000

I would be curious to learn where the fine print separates these two programs.

They're definitely different programs, but I can't see one necessarily being better than the other. They both serve the same purpose. $3,000 is a great price on a CPO.

The extended warranty came with two tiers. Gold and Platinum, with the Platinum covering the iDrive system. There may be more tiers, but that wasn't explained to me at the time. I'm thankful the extended warranty is offered through BMW. It's much easier having them deal with everything in house, rather than another extended warranty company and dealing with that mess.

At the end of the day, I'm curious as to the price differences between the two, along with the fine print like you mentioned.

My credit union uses Route 66. When I financed the M5 in May, and two weeks ago when my friend financed his M6 Gran Coupe, we were both quoted coverage. In fairness, their top-tier was not available on ///M cars, and even then still it was WAYY too much money. More than the BMW ESC.

Not sure if they just haven't updated that disclaimer you saw, or what some other difference may have been, but they did offer it nonetheless. Perhaps it was that way only because it was through an approved bank? Dunno.

What kind of prices is everyone being quoted? I'm shopping for quotes for extended warranty right now.

I was quoted 12k for a 3 year/125k with a $250 deductible from Easy Care. It seems really expense or is this what they generally run.

How did you get the quote? Let me know if you find an option. You just calling dealers? They're not returning my calls. I'll try again.
