Exclamation Red Line Synthetic Oil SAE 5W-30

The oil says BMW-LL01 on the back. Is this okay to use? I haven't had much luck searching the internet for the oil and my dealer is CLUELESS. Someone with experience please chime in, thank you.

Just because its "LL 01" does it mean that this oil is a "BMW LL 01" approved oil?

Your oil needs to have the certifications by API SK/CF or ACEA A3/B4 the weights will also be in your owners manual.

I already ordered some redline from my bmw indy shop and theirs says BMW LL01 and ACEA A3/B3/B4...but I called redline and their current label doesn't say BMW LL01? So what gives?

I assume mixing the redline 5w30 and the motul 5w40 wont cause any harm?

Should I just use the 5W40 period?

You should be ok.

Try the redline and see if your gas consumption improves or not.

The bmw oil Castrol 5w30 seems to burn oil faster than Motul. I switched to that on my 2011 550 and that's what I noticed. Not sure if this would have the same effect on our M car.

But the owners manual says that 5W-40 is okay to use? (As long as its LL01 and ACEA A3/B4)

5w40 is okay. I would not worry too much. Actually, I prefer 5w40 more, if it's available.

Based on this http://motul.speclube.com/technical-info/engine-oils/

motul 8100 x-max 5w30/5w40 is exactly what we need
