2014 m5 trunk light help

I just got my MCB m5 and I am struggling to get the heatshield off of the bulb housing for the body panel trunk light.

Does anyone have some insight to share?

I tried squeezing the little clips and pulling in every direction.

The DIY instructions from ECS are vague on this particular subject

Thank you!

I'd just add your SA at your dealer. They're usually very helpful.

Prise out the lamp unit as you have done. To avoid any short circuits and blown fuses, disconnect the lamp form the wires - a small screwdriver will do that. Just press in on the little tab in the black connector.

Once separated, just prise wide the sides off the reflector and it will come off giving you access to the bulb. If using the ECS kit use one of the 9 LED longer bulbs to keep the 5 LEDs for the glovebox, roof lights and door bases.

As you will see its no longer a festoon bulb in the trunk, but a W5W wedge same as all interior (bar mirrors).

If you manage to change the footwell lights please post. I couldn't do those - they seem to be some kind of dual LED (yellow white light) that cant be removed.

BMW also do a kit for the trunk light as an LED - 63 31 2 348 803.

thank you for your help! I was able to get the trunk light taken care of, and now i need to get the overhead lights done. I have not attempted the footwell lights since they are already LED, not as bright, but LED nonetheless.

Overhead lights are heart in the mouth. It seems like you are using a lot of force but that's what it needs. I would suggest a trim removal tool(s) made of plastic so you don't damage the surrounds. The front is the hardest - take the trim ring surround off first, then prise the whole unit, then press cross the 2 internal metal tabs and it will come off.
