Mityvac Anyone???

I'm due for my first DIY oil change now that I'm only running on my CPO warranty. I've always used a Mityvac on my MBs but this would be my first BMW oil change. I couldn't find the answer on the F10 non-M forum, so hoping to find it here since it's the same engine as the 550i.

Has anyone successfully used a Mityvac on the N63 to extract their engine oil?

Isn't there a danger that it doesn't remove all of the crud in the bottom of the pan, also the oil cooler mounted behind the radiator takes quite a while to drain so your device wouldn't remove this.

It isn't really an issue to remove a drain plug and do the job properly so why risk it

I understood that on some cars the drain plug was magnetic and this attracted metal particles which wouldn't be removed your way.

Personally I would do it properly after all is a $30,000 engine and the oil is critical

The oil change is cake on these. I let mine drain for over an hour and get a bunch more oil out. It takes time for it to drain out of the cooler. I personally would just jack it up and drain it, letting it sit awhile to drain as much old oil out as possible.

GL!

Fair arguments for going down the drain route. Thanks.

There's no dipstick hole to put the hose down to drain it. And the oil filter is next to the drain plug so you have to go under the car no choice.

Hahaha. I can't believe that I didn't know that before asking. I've cleaned that engine bay so many times but never had a reason to pay attention to whether there is a dipstick or not.

OK. That settles that then.
