Dyno: M5 OpenFlash Tune VS. M6 GC Dinan & M5 ESS

We had a Dyno day Friday at Black Market Racing here in Arizona.

We ran all 3 cars back to back on the same dyno, same weather, same everything within minutes from one another!

First off we had a 2015 M6 Grand Coupe with Dinan intake, Dinan Tune, Dinan Exhaust, Catless Downpipes

The car made 553 WHP and 54x Tq

Next we had a 2014 Comp package M5 with ESS Tune, Competition exhaust, Catless Downpipes, K&N Filter, Charcoal Delete and Methanol Injection

The car made 638 WHP and 64x Tq

My car is a 2014 Stock M5 with only OpenFlash

I'm running 91 Octane + Lucas Oil Octane booster on V1.2 Tune - No burbles

I honestly thought something was off but I saw run 2 & 3 making the same numbers so... Guess my car is making that much power This was 3rd run which actually made more power than the first two.

Nice to see the newest version of our Stg1 tune put down some big and consistent numbers. There's a lot more power potential in these engines than most tuners are aware of. So there is very little need to spend $$ on bolt-on hardware which comes with its own set of compromises (noise, emissions, complexity, installation labor, etc,) A properly calibrated ECU tune goes a long way. And no, unlike most other tuners, we do NOT change the sensitivity of the knock control system. If you get everything right in terms of fuel, spark, VVT, etc. the ECU is happy with letting the engine make loads of power. Plain and simple.

Cheers

It looks very different from the flat torque tune with approx 600wtq. Has v1.2 been released and any reason for pushing torque much higher?

This is the full torque version of the newest version stage 1 tune. Torque is actually still quite flat from 2500 to 4500rpm. The dyno operator started the pull at a late 3000rpm for some reason. Also keep in mind that the hp and torque scaling is very different than the dyno graphs we post so the curves will look subjectively very different. If you make the Y axis show from 0 to 700 instead of 350 to 700, the curves will flatten out quite a bit. The primary goal with this tune is to provide lots of useable torque quite still making peak hp above 6000rpm which makes the car still feel nice and revvy. The flat torque version of this tune makes makes the same peak hp but is about 75lbft down on tq and is flat from 2500 to 5500rpm.

V1.2 is essentially the same as v1.1 but we changed some temp compensations table values. Will release it to everyone over the next week or so.

Good question but I almost always drive like a Grandma. I just like having that much power

Not to mention my car slides all over the place so its probably roasting more tires than a clutch, I think..

Great results! I can't wait to get my openflash tablet and tune installed.

Were you running the 91 or 93 oct. v1.2 stg1 map?

Would love to see an Openflash Tune M5 WITHOUT DP, since they don’t recommmend the smell, expense, breaking the law aspect of it VS a Bootmod3 M5 WITH DP and stage 2. Same octane gas!

Who else would love to see this!?

Do you run the octane booster to run a 93 octane map or are you running a 91 octane map?

Interested to see the boost curve too

If it does not create much knocks with higher boost + conservative timing then usually all is well, also curious about stock clutch limit though. I think I read somewhere about increasing clutch clamping force by coding or something, can anyone comment on this?

@Somy6 would it be possible for the other two dyno day participants with tuned M5s to post up their results?
