Cool E60 M5 as an investment!

I'm sure some of you out there are aware of what has happened with the E30 M3 and the E28 M5 as far as the vehicle's value going through the roof and have become highly coveted. That is, for a worthy car. Those cars are considered by many BMW purists to be the last true "driver's" car engineered by BMW. So, with that said, and given the awesome V10 shoehorned into the E60 M5,....does anyone thinks that the E60 M5 will also become a much sought after M-car?

I'm thinking about hording one away,....because once the fever hits,...it'll be too late. Case in point,....I can afford an E60 M5 now,...even an 2008,...2010 model,...but find that an E30 M3/E28 M5 is beyond my reach.

Also, the E36 M3,...could easily be added to this conversation,...especially the M3 LW.

Your M-thoughts are M-most welcomed...

Yeah I think the V10 will end up being a classic because you will never see and engine like it again , in any road car. I love my E60 6 speed. It is a rare breed indeed.

I don't know

I see the E39 being more sought after years from now. I still plan on picking one up one day.

The V10 is a classic but I don't see it as investment worthy though.

Problem with todays collector market is now everybody collects everything hoping it will be worth something. Where as what is now collectable and valuable was once considered throw away.

Too many in production no chance. Now the Z8, or a 1M will be a smart buy.

I love them but there is too many and I feel in styling terms the E60 kind of deviated from that classic BMW look, especially with the head lights. It kind of reminds of when Porshce went from the 993 to 996. The 996 was a big leap forward in technology but is considered by many to be the ugly duckling. The fact that the 997 went back to the classic styling cues reminds me of how The F series kind of moved back in a similar way. Just my opinion.

Very well said...but perhaps this deviation from the classic BMW look is exactly why it may make the E60 M5 special.

But I have to agree with most, with the high production numbers that the E60 M5 saw, I doubt it will be a worthy investment. And certainly not within the next few years.

If you're not in the category to spend over 7 figures on a car, nothing with 4 wheels should be considered an "investment". Also depends on your expectations for ROI.

Yep, cars are crap investments:

If you invest your 100k elsewhere at a meager 5% interest 10 years turns it into $162,889 and 20 years turns it into $265,369.77.

Compound interest is your friend, investing is cars is not. If you want the car then get it, but never consider any automobile an "investment" unless you have a hangar sized garage where adding 1 more beast to the manger isn't going to increase your overhead.

Also factor in maintenance and the aforementioned overhead to your considerations: heating/cooling storage, actually storage space (garage sq ft as a function of mortgage/rental), long term maintenance. . . You'll quickly find that as mentioned, anything with 4 wheels outside the really expensive stuff quickly falls outside the realm of "investor grade."

If you wanted to invest in a BMW car you should have gotten the Z8. Anything with limited production will be valuable but how valuable depends on the model.

I had the opportunity own a E61 M5, the Touring version of the E60 M5.

Rare indeed, with only 1.025 build and mine was an individual Azutire with all the options (including a tow hitch!). My intentions were to take good care of that special car and try to preserve it as much as possible.

Unfortunately it was stolen after the keys were taken from a house break-in.

It would be an investment into your own psychological and emotional well-being (the fun factor of an E60 M5). Goes much further than making a few bucks on a car you hardly drive (garage queen).

Awesome buy. awesome car. If I find one I'd keep it for my son and tell him this is how close we got to F1. mentally, at least. If I found one I'd get one of it was less then 50k on the clock..

Before I got rid of mine I can tell you it def was an "investment" - a BAD investment But I know what you mean, one day a working s85 will be gold.
