The X5M also looks tempting.
Love the CTSV however I would not trade my M5 in for it. Just my opinion. I'd rather move to an AMG
That's because you loved that drive with me in the e63 s model the other day.. Lol

As far as the CTS-V being a good replacement, I have a different perspective than some of the people here...

I haven't driven the CTS-V but after my E60 M5 was rear-ended and totalled I bought a 2014 CTS VSport (in 2014) because the new CTS-V wasn't out yet. My M5 had been my daily driver, as was the VSport, and now this F-10 M5. I bought this F10 M5 recently instead of the CTS-V because of my experience with the VSport and I knew that, performance aside, the CTS-V would be very much like the V-Sport for day to day living.

First off the CTS-V is probably alot faster around the track than the M5. It's 200lbs lighter and alot more torque and horsepower. But for me it's about the whole package, not just the raw performance numbers. BMW makes the M5 as a very fast executive sports sedan that is sort of Dr Jeckel/Mr Hyde kind of thing.... all the anemities of a high end 5-series, with the performance of a sports car. Alot of companies try to duplicate this, but they seem to focus on trying to beat the M5's performance more than keep up with the luxury.

Designed to compete with the 550i M-Sport, the V-Sport was a riot to drive, light and nimble and with the underrated twin-turbo V6 it was very quick. And as much of a horror as this might seem to some, I would suspect, after owning the E60 M5 for 4 years and putting it through it's performance paces regularly, the Cadillac V-sport probably out-handled the E60 M5. But it was in the refinement that the Cadillac lacked the BMW. And it wasn't apparent at first, it was something that I realized over time having owned BMWs for 10 years (e90 330i, e60 530i, E46 M3, E60 M5) and then owning the Cadillac for two years.

There were many things, but here are a few:

The Cadillac has a beautiful interior, but it is not very user friendly. No knobs, all touch controls. Looks very nice, but when you're bumping along a road you are always pressing the wrong buttons because your hand is moving up and down while you're reaching out. There is no place to rest your hands to make it easier. Also, with the proximity sensing, which is that it detects your hand approaching the screen and then puts up the menu items, sounds very cool, but if your palm went too close to below the screen, which it always does because of the angle as the screen sweeps up and away from the driver, it would think you're trying to adjust the volume, which was a touch control, and that would pop up and then you can't do anything and have to wait a few seconds before it faded away so you could try to do what you originally intended. Also the angle of the display looks cool in the shadows but if the sun is coming anywhere from overhead it washes out the screen and it's very hard to see as there is no sun shade like the small one in the F10.The same is true with the graphical instrument cluster, if the sun came in from the back quarter then it washes out the instruments. That's why I like the real needles on the BMW.

Another thing where Cadillac is behind is the voice recognition when you try to give voice commands or enter navigation destinations. The Cadillac voice recognition is just plain bad compared with the BMW. In fact, the first thing I did when I got in the F10 to test drive was to try to speak my home address into the nav. The BMW got it first try. The Cadillac was a chore and always brought up the wrong streets that the name sounded similar. This is for everything including music search, radio station, blue tooth phone, etc... it just had poor voice recognition.

Also the BMW just has a better feeling. The Cadillac wanders around driving down a straight road with minor ruts where the BMW tracks true. Same roads I have driven for over 20 years in all my cars so I know what to expect. The Cadillac is affected by the ruts much more that the BMWs I've had. Also the feel of the car, the BMW just feels higher quality in the steering, the layout, etc.. even if it isn't.

So basically if you want the fastest 4-door then the CTS-V is probably the one to get, but as an older business executive that appreciates and expects the finer things in life where the peak numbers matter much less than the overall package, the BMW is hard to beat. I would maybe look to the new F90 M5 to see how it is. It should be alot lighter unless they add AWD, then it'll be heavier.

-Dave

I bought an M2. Going back to something with pure agility has been incredible. I do miss the beasts straight line speed though.

where are you getting this info from ?

Many suggest it (RS5) will be a 3.0L TT V6 (same engine being used by the new gen Panamera), power should come in between 450 and 480hp (absolute top).

Lease on the M5 ends November '17. Considering:

Buying this one outright (resale market dependent)
Buying another F10 M5 (also resale market dependent)
Jeep Grand Cherokee "Hellcat" (Trailhawk) or whatever it's called
