raw+jpg and overflow. i only keep the jpgs because i have custom looks in-camera that are applied to the jpg, but not the raw (obviously). usually a very crazy-curved B&W look.

It doesn't create the year folder automatically for you?

My camera does but I manually create my main folders for LR to import all my shots into by year. So I was just importing all my new 2012 shots into my old 2011 folder, just a minor inconvenience really.

weird... I have it creating all my folders automagically when I import. It stores them in the Library that I define. You can create your own custom presets, but I think even by default it creates the appropriate folders for you.

Checked the shutter count on my 50D, at 24,800 now.

Also I'm finally getting to that point where I feel upgrading my body would be worthwhile

28,000 isn't too bad

If you can justify it for yourself however, we won't stop you. Would you keep the 50D as a backup?

what would you "upgrade" to?

Or were you talking more like, silicone implants?

That's only 1/4th of its shutter life!

My 7D is approaching 50,000 clicks and the 5D2 is around 40,000. Having two bodies, I'll send one in for shutter replacement the day it craps out, unless I've bought a new body because of some new features that I want. I think that replacing the shutter on most pro-sumer cameras is a good investment, if you need it. Bodies with 400,000 and 500,000 click shutter lives, cost way more than the replacement cost of a shutter.

Was wondering about that. A local studio is closing and the owner has two 1Ds MkII bodies on the local CL. One is just under $1600 and has 300k actuations. That still leaves a 100k, I believe, which would last me for years, but I was wondering how much shutter replacement costs.

The PowerShot G1X looks pretty good, spec-wise.

I rather have 5D2. The DR of the 5D2 even exceeds the 1Ds MkIII. One reason to buy a 1D body of any type is the hundreds of thousands of clicks they're designed to manage. If you're never going to get there, then heed Moore's Law and buy the latest, greatest technology that you can afford at the time. The sensor is the core decision factor in all digital camera purchases. It's not the only factor, only the core or first factor.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy one of his cameras when I can get a new 7D for hundreds less. I was just wondering if $1600 for a body with 300K clicks was reasonable.

If it were a current generation camera, then maybe, but two generations old and that many clicks make it a "pass" for me.

What lenses does he have for sale? That's a totally different question my friend.

Closing my photo studio. I have reduced pricing on Canon EF L lenses. 16-35 f/2.8L, $825, 28-70 f2/8L, $825, 200 f/2.8L, $500, 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS, $1,150. EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS, $825.
I would title these under the heading "Nice Lenses I don't want/need" or something like that. All older generation lenses. No II versions.

That 16-35mm would be of interest to me... if I were buying. I'm holding off on everything right now.
