You know the one thing that annoys me the most about the 5D3? The black AF points... why did Canon make them black?!?

This camera is a low-light monster, but then you have no idea what you're focusing at because you can't see the AF points until they light up when you press the shutter. By then, you may have already missed the shot.

thanks for the info guys.

I think it's the lens, not the camera. Its a 16-35 so hard to shoot from far away and get good detail on the stuff but it just looks like what I focus on doesn't come out sharp anyway so... gonna send it in to be looked at. It's an older version, maybe 2002-03 or something (need to check the date code).

Should I send it to Canon or should I just look for a local place?

Thanks guys. Very close to doing so.

Ryan, good idea on the bundle. The last lens I really need to complete the kit is the 35L, but I'm holding off on that in favor of a MBP. The 5D3 + 35L will put me out $4778. Ouch!

BH has a $500 rebate if purchased with a Pro9500, but the Pro9500 is discontinued and not even available on their site anymore!

Canon. Depending on your local AD, they'll probably send it to Canon anyways.

Should I be pissed off?

This morning, some guy in Australia randomly emailed me:
Quote:
You may be interested to know that one of your frozen seawater photos from 2010 has been a very popular online jigsaw, which has been solved over 1 million times.
Naturally, my first thought was this is spam, but he included a photo I actually took. So, I searched it and lo and behold, I found this:

http://www.jigidi.com/puzzle.php?id=VTNCHLS9

My photo was solved over a million times! Apparently it's a new record, and I have no idea why it is so popular... Look at their FB page (scroll down to their June 6th entry):

https://www.facebook.com/jigidi

Anyways, should I be pissed that someone stole my photo without permission and made a very popular puzzle out of it without tell me, or asking for my permission?

This is the person who posted it: http://www.jigidi.com/user_profile.php?name=joan454

It looks like the website just accepts pictures that people submit and make a puzzle out of them, so it wasn't the website itself who stole it. She seems like some old lady who doesn't really care where the pictures came from, she just found them and posted it.

Either way the website runs ads and is making money, though probably not a lot. I guess it's up to you if you if you want to make them take it down or not. I'd be a little mad if it was mine, though I know it wasn't done with bad intentions.

hmmm and you wouldn't recommend a 3rd party place such as this? Obviously I can recognize the benefit in sending it to the people who made it in the 1st place but I also know Canon can take like 6-12 weeks to fix stuff.

What Seminole said.

If you're going to run a site and sell advertising, then you should assure that the proper releases are obtained from the owner, models, property owners, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the old lady looked over at Getty Images to see what properly licensed work cost and decided not to pay.

Was your copyright shown where the image was stolen? Have you registered your copyrighted images? Is the site owner in a country that honors copyright laws? If all those are "yes", then you might consider suing. It could be very costly to you and the owner may have no assets to take. Would you be better off receiving credit and a link to your portfolio? All things to consider...

I'm not going to sign up for an account to verify it, but since all the puzzles are posted by users and not the website itself, I'm assuming there is a little check-box when you go to upload a new photo that says something along the lines of "I certify that I have the right/permissions to use this photo". It also looks like the owner/operator of the website is located in Denmark, so going after them for anything would be difficult. At best he could e-mail the guy and see if he will take the picture down.

The image got over a million hits! If you're not going to sue, then consider getting your copyright displayed, credit given and even a link to your site.

If you can't get that, or something near as good, then insist that it be taken down.

Personally, I would be. At least it was not a physical puzzle that was sold for a profit, though. Could always send an email to have them take it down or give you credit/payment.

The site is generating revenue and the development costs were minimal compared to creating a physical puzzle. The site owner should pay up in some way, either with hard money, or credit and links and other considertion.

Thanks guys. I'll be formulating an email this weekend to send to them. Hopefully it'll be easily rectified.

On a separate note, here's an interesting article I wanted to share with you guys...

A camera with a billion pixels

I guess with Disneyland this close to our balcony, we need to make a few trips over there. Might catch some fireworks from the hotel room, if they still do that.

Tell them to cough up a penny per hit ($10k).
