Lets talk about engine only.. s63TU
I always thought M cars are well known for its impressive engines.
It's been almost about a year since its debut but I don't see many 3rd party tunes available for this f10 m5... Specially compared to M157 AMG engine. (Yes.. There are some.. But it seems to me there needs many modification to turbos.. Etc.) It feels to me the engines are already at its max capacity. What do you guys think? |

GT-R is a 3.8 putting out almost what we put out with .6 less of a liter. There is more left. Mclaren also has a smaller twin turbo putting out about the same as us. There is some left. But not from BMW. You would have to go elsewhere.

M157 seems to yield a lot of power from tunes. Especially with another 1.1L of displacement and the more traditional exhaust manifold as opposed to the cross bank manifold, it seems more tuner friendly indeed. We are patiently waiting for a good tune! Not that I am wanting more power, I want more sound

If they don't include a removal of the speed limiter, what use is it? The car is plenty fast enough below top end so I don't see any value in adding power without a way to top end the car.

More power will at some point necessitate more fuel that is easy to provide with upgraded port injectors. With direct injection, however, things may become much more expensive and involved and difficult to source and sign off before they make it to the market.
Edit: it is not out of the question making intake manifolds that would house port injectors to work in conjunction with the factory direct injectors to avoid excessive cost while adding some, possibly acceptable and justified, complexity Last edited by s62; 06-08-2013 at 11:25 AM.. Well mine is restricted at 190mph with the drivers package. Not sure you need to go much faster than that. But Manhart is about to crack it. But honestly, how often do you want to go beyond 200 mph? If only you could take a drive in my M5, you would know why over 700 bhp is really nice and usable.

In the US it's limited at about 160mph as I understand it. Haven't found out yet but that is what I read (think Stealth mentioned this). I know that on some videos where the M5 is racing against other cars, it limits at 155 or so. |

I have seen 167 on mine. With speedo error 155ish sounds right.

You have to order the "Drivers Package" to get the 190MPH speed limit. I understand that this option is only available in Europe though... |

It's the ECU thats limiting the tuners, it's now coming out with "remote access" by BMW , and the cars will be giving "Feed back" on any faults that are illuminated, I will post this new info once I find it again.
So BMW will know all. No BS from customers.

This is not only for faults causing visible lights/fault messages... BMW has and will continue to clamp down on abilities to modify the DME without leaving traces.
