OEM parts after a tune. Keep 'em?

I just put down a deposit with my local shop to run a Dinan S1 Package (S2 software, cf cold air intake, exhaust, and sport coilovers) + sway bars on my 2013 F10.

Just curious. Does anyone ever ask for their OEM parts back? My car has less than 18k miles on it and all the stock parts are probably still in excellent condition. Would there be a market for these parts? I assume they wouldn't be worth nothing.

It feels like a waste to just throw them out or leave them with garage.

You planning on keeping the car until the day you die? If not then it's always worth it to take the aftermarket parts off and sell them to recoup money back, when you sell the car. I once sold a full exhaust system for exactly what paid for it. Wouldn't have been possible if I threw my 130lbs stock exhaust away.

Always keep your stock parts. Upon sale of my cars, I am usually able to recoup about 50% of what I spent on mods by parting out.

Hmm... you make an interesting point there. Although, I just assumed the aftermarket parts would increase the resale value of the car, and I'd "recoup" some cost that way.

Would have to scrape the Dinan badges off too!

Where do you guys keep these giant parts? Must have big houses / garages! I live in a condo with a public garage. I want to put on the Akra exhaust and the only reason I haven't done that is because I don't know what to do with the old one...

You got me there. If I were looking to replace my entire exhaust system I would keep the stock, but cut it up into sections and store it in my attic. Right now I have my stock mufflers, a front lip spoiler and some other random parts stored up there now. The rest of my parts are in boxes in my garage.

I've lived in Condos and Apartments for a super long time being in the military and all. I always had a storage unit for one reason or another, and I would always keep my car parts in there. I'm about to buy my first house later this year so I'll finally be able to store all the car parts in the garage. I think that if you can afford a nice car you can afford a storage unit to put the parts in. Yes I know that paying a monthly fee to store the parts in will eventually exceed the value of the parts in question, but it's always worked out for the better and made it easier to sell the car when you can return it to stock.

You'll never get anything for aftermarket parts on the car when you sell it. Most people don't want a car with mods. If they do, you'll hardly get anything. Like someone said previously if you buy a mod new and sell it later after you part out your car, you "should" get 50% of what you paid for it, but not always. I always keep my stock parts even though they take up a lot of space. I change cars a lot too. Only one I wish I kept was my gtr!

Makes sense Dave. Never thought about it. Not sure if I'll do that for a couple of reasons.

Hope it was a fun cross country trip!

Thanks bro! Yeah the movers are finally coming today and within the coming weeks I will finally be able to put together and edit all the media I recorded of the trip. I would expect my Trip Mega-Thread to be about within the next few weeks. I think I got some really good footage and I have some very interesting stories to share.
