I have RPI Catless downpipes and the full meistershaft. The cold start is a little obnoxious now but I like it that way. If you only had the muffler section I don't think it would be nearly as loud.

MPE. Love it. And can residualize it if you are leasing.

I have AMS catless downpipes and IPE exhaust. It's the only M5 exhaust I've heard in person so I can't comment on how it compares to others, but I LOVE it. I was really impressed with the quality and the sound is perfect (IMO). The cold start is a little ridiculous with the exhaust and catless DP's, but once it idles down, I love it. With the valves closed it is a little louder and more aggressive than stock but there is almost zero drone. With the valves open......holy crap. I get pretty loud drone from 1500-2500 with them open, but it sounds like a BEAST. Videos just don't seem to capture it for me. If at all possible, you definitely need to experience one or two setups in person to decide exactly what you want.
The other thing I liked about IPE is that the valves are vacuum controlled. I liked that better than electronically controlled for some reason and I don't really know why. It just seems more reliable to me. It has closed, open, and auto modes and I have them setup on my home link buttons. |

Here's a rev clip with the cold start and alternating between valves open and closed. Once the motor warms up the sound "smooths out" for lack of a better word and loses a little of the popping, which I didn't really get in this video. Again, it's tough to really get it from a vid. I've heard my car in some vids where I just really wasn't crazy about the sound. But in person, I love it every time.

I think I've come to the conclusion that there is not an exhaust I like that is within my budget that I've assigned to such a project. I've determined that to have a 'nicer' exhaust on my M5 (daily driver) it's not worth more than $3500 installed. Unfortunately the only system that meets that price point is Meistershaft. And from what I can determine, I'm not thrilled with how 'raw' they sound. I'm looking for the Akra sound at the Meistershaft price point. lol. So, my decision is to use the money budgeted for this project and apply it to another project... new Z06/Z07 project.

Yeah, it's definitely not the cheapest system, but honesty its my favorite mod to date. It turns heads every time I drive it!
Hey Golan! Yes sir, I am loving it! Next up on my list is wheels. I just need to decide which way to go. I'm perfectly happy with the way the car sounds and runs though! |

For the insane cold starts, if you bring the RPMs up 2-300 or so it will muffle the noise substantially. Hold it for about 20 seconds and the car will kick down.
