M6 to 911 Carrera S, went to the semi-darkside.

Gents,

I moved to Hawaii on January and end up traded my slightly used M6 in for a brand new 911 991 Carrera S in early February. After test drove the P, I can honestly said the P are better than the M6 in many ways except for luxury.

As you know before I was looking into trading my M6 in for a used 997TTS but did not do it since wife disagree. Right before I ship my car to Hawaii, my car involved into a hit-and-run and my rear bumper and valance was damage. I had it fix for $500. She then allows me to get the Porsche but a new one instead of a used one 2-3 years old.

The 991 Carrera S comes with: PDK, Aerocup Kit, Sport Chrono, PSE, Carbon Fiber and a host of other BULLSHIT OPTIONS...for a total of $127K MSRP. Got it for 118K. My M6 got 87K for trade-in. These Ms values drop like a rock, I can't believe it.

So here my takes on it after a month of driving it.

Pros:
- PSE sounds so much better than my M6 Eisennman Sport; on par with the Jag F-type R exhaust IMO...but not as loud.
- The 3.8 H6 sounds so good between 4K-7K RPM; kinda remind me of the R8 V10; it is much better when compare to the V8TT.
- Suspension is so much better on the P; car feels tight and rigid at high speed. I feel much confident in the P than the M.
- I got more complements on the P in 1 week than I got in the M6 in the last 6 months.
- more than 1K pounds less, 1200 est to be exact, car feels agile and very easy to drive.
- Launch control is idiot proof.
- While it is more than 200 HP less than my BMS M6, the P feels faster from standstill to about 100MPH.
- Better MPG, I average 25MPH versus M's 17 MPH.

Cons:
- Sounds system is not as good as M6 B&O since the car sport the base sound system. Whereas B&O and Burmester is a 10/10, the base is about 7/10.
- doesn't have the same amenities like the M6: key-less, heated seat (no need Hawaii is hot as shit), cooled seat, etc...fully option 991 Carrera s run in the 150K.
- Is black so is hard to keep clean...
- noticeably more interior than the M6, can hear most road noise etc; not GTR annoyance but it is there.
- noticeable less trunk space.
- no head up display..."sad face"

Below are the pics, enjoy...

Awesome. Thank you very much for sharing. Loved the Pro's and Con's list. Yeah the absence of a Heads Up Display is what bothers me A LOT when I think about different brand of high performance automaker. I'm glad that you pointed out the cabin road noise level too. I think it is both a good think and a bad thing when it comes to these cars. On the M6, it is a High Performance Luxury GT car, so the cabin is well insulated to feel like a BMW, but when trying to hear the stock exhaust sound from the inside of the car with the windows up, it's definitely "sad face" time. On the other hand in the Porsch-uh, great road noise level, would get tiresome and wear you out if you were to do a long road trip, just simply not comfortable; but when driving spiritedly, it would be SO much more appreciated. So it's a give and take relationship.

Overall, I think you made a great choice, I wouldn't have gotten a 991 without that Sport Aero Cup Wing either. I have always hated the way that 911's look without some sort of wing on the back, but with it on, I love it.

Also, I'm kind of jealous with you being in Hawaii. I have been there many times, and although I'm not entirely sure that island life is the life for me, I know it has got to be better than NorthEast winters!

The car looks great, loaded with the CCB's too!!!

As for HUD- its a nice add but never been a deal breaker for me. The truest sports cars Ive owned didnt come with it. In fact right now I dont have one car with that option- no big deal.... rather have sound LOL but I do like it.

Congrats now the bug has bitten you ........that's how I started with a 991S them the GT3. Too cars are very different and hard to compare, but I do enjoy the M5 room and luxury. P Car is a fun weekend car, and the S is a good DD if you don't need the space. Enjoy.

Vic55: Car does not come with PCCB, unfortunately. There was a 991 GT3 there in red, MSRP 140K but it was sold to a Japanese customer, or else I would of grab it right there. I was told all the GT3 allocation were sold out. =/.

Prior to purchase, I cross shop again. The contenders that were available are GTR BE, Type-F R, and the less HP 991 Carrera S.

Nissan really turn me away from their dealer once again, due to their lack of customer service professionalism. (Granted I came in t-shirt and short and flip flop) I told the salesman I want to check out the GTR and right until I walk out to my car to get my registration for trade-in he treated me seriously. Before that, I was some kid trying to test drive a GTR.

Jaguar F-Type, same casual outfit, was treated much better. However, they lowball me on my M6 for $75,000 trade-in so that is what turn me off. customer service was overall, excellent. When it come to test drive. Test drove the R, it feels powerful, sounds REALLY good and modern but not as refine and classy as the P.

991 Carrera S, it was across from Jag dealer (was in tanktop and swim short), so I walked across to check it out. A very friendly salesman attend to me and ask what I'm looking for. I said I don't know, he shows me around the show room and the Red GT3 and black 991 C2S caught my eyes. GT3 was sold and was being deliver that day to the customer down the street at Mercedes dealers, I ask can I take a ride with him in the GT3 to deliver it, and he said ok...lets go, no problem. We then test drove the black C2S, he took me on an extensive test drive to the back road up in the hill show me the way then let me test drove it, it was an 30 min test drive, not 5-10 min like Jag. He owned a 2009 911 Turbo, so he took me on a test drove on that too showing me the different between a Turbo and an NA. Long story short, they gave me a fair trade-in for my M6, for $86,500 based on NADA, and discounted the P from 127K to 118K. Told me that many customer are interested in P that doesn't look racy like this one so they have a hard time selling it, got it since Aug 2014 and have not been able to move it. Overall experience was very good and I will defintely come back for that next gen GT3 or 911TTS.

I thought I saw yellow calipers? Or did the dealer paint it that way? I know McKenna (stateside) paints their Pcars cali's some times.

congrats.

A big part of what impressed me about Porsche was the quality, fit and finish of the vehicle. Felt and drove very solid. Really liked that.

Enjoy it bud!

Had the Aero kit on my 991 and in my opinion really made the car look 10x better than it already did (Already love the way the 991 looks without it as well)

Congrats!

They painted the caliber yellow from factory. I wish they have a supercharger option for 991C2S. 500BHP light weight RWD supercharged Porsche would be great.

Except the damn signal stalk. It feels crappy in all their cars and I use it a lot (as should everyone) so it really annoyed me.

That's how I would do it. Walk in with t-shirt, and a jeans; I'll cut holes in the jeans to see if they'll take me serious.

How is the traction in the 911 compared to your former M6?

I believe it has better traction due to:
1. Less power and torque
2. Has wide track
3. Has short wheelbase
4. Is rear mounted engine causes the rear weight bias
5. Has lower center of gravity

Spot on.... and I would argue that the diff in the 991 is more user friendly (throttle wise).
