Agreed. Although, I do enjoy using Skype to call my parents. I absolutely hate using a telephone, so Skype wins.

Facetime makes skype look like using two tin cans and a string... Granted everyone needs an Apple device but at the present, there is not a better communication device.

Also, the key to FB is not to take anything seriously... I use it solely to keep update of events that may be happening and trolling car groups. There is almost 0 value to it otherwise... I post a picture annually at best.

During our wait for our last flight out of Heathrow, I saw a woman have a Facetime conversation with someone for at least an hour. I can't see myself holding a phone pointed at my face for anywhere near that long. I really don't need to see the person I'm speaking with.

Thats called facetime audio lol...

Are you using skype for phone calls only? There are services where u register your number and can call directly from your cell phone anywhere. For me, landlines where 5c a minute and other cellphones where 15c... the convenience of being able to call from anywhere on my cell phone is unmatched.

I'd do something like that if I needed that service regularly. But I've made maybe 6 calls overseas in the last 5 years, so it's not worth the setup hassle.

What is this antisocial media you speak of??
IRC mainly, forums go to that category too, though I was just banned from an orchid forum.

My old friends and I live hectic lives and we don't have time to chat ever, but we tend to his write updates to our channel. Everyone knows what's going on and nobody needs to look at photos.

I got suckered into it like 5 years ago. I almost never post anything to my wall, almost never comment on people's posts (I might "Like" a few). I am, and have been from the start, VERY selective about who my "friends" are. You piss me off for any reason: posting too much about your kids I couldn't care less about, your political\religious views\beliefs, you send me too many Candy Crush Saga requests, etc. and you're gone. If you're a friend IRL, it's off the news feed you go and if you're just some idiot I met one time, you get removed. I regularly clean house, too. I use it for amusement when bored at work. Fixing to really just ax it altogether...

The other social media outlets like Twitter and Instagram I really just have absolutely no use for. I really will commit suicide before I join Twitter.

I pretty much used FB as it grew from nothing, i think i was like the first 1x,xxx user, however its run its course. I stopped actively using and posting to FB about two years ago, by then it has already become annoying. Endless Candy Crush invites, acquaintances who posts a million pics of their baby and kid, nonsense rants and annoying ads.
However I do maintain the account to search for Datsun parts, believe it or not there is a big community on there that sells/trades hard to find and used parts. So i set my privacy on high for every setting, no one can see my wall/pictures/posts and I just use it to lurk for sale groups.

Like all these about social media, it is about how you use them.

- If you have idiots posting stupid things, just unfriend or block their posts.
- Set your privacy as high as possible and don't friend people unless you really give a shit about them.
- Install adblock...

I personally find FB useful for keeping in touch with old friends that are across the country or world.

I don't mind phones. Except for some people who don't have proper phone call etiquette.

I've been using Google Hangouts with the same results. And it works on iOS or Android or Windows. Device agnostic, FTW!!

Bimmerpost is the only social media I use other than Motorcycle.com mobile app.

Everyone else I choose to communicate with is via phone/text/email depending on wich part of the world either of us are standing at the time.

I'm a social media whore, so I'm on Facebook fairly oten, mostly just as a way to see what all of my friends are up to, post pictures, IM people, and so forth. Maybe a couple of hours a day, total. Instagram, Twitter, and Yik Yak too. I still refuse to make a tumblr, though.

Actually, I just noticed that there's a new feature where you get to assign a moderator of sorts... It wasn't announced, but when I was removing an app I accidentally authorized I just noticed this; this wasn't there last month.

Whoa that's kinda creepy. More or less assigning a beneficiary/trustee for your FB profile. Weird.

I just use facebook to connect with the car groups. Other than that, I can care less about social media.. maybe because I'm antisocial.

My oldest kid is convinced FB is for old people hahaha

And that person still can't delete your account. They can post and control other posts, but the account lives on. The only way to make sure your page is taken down eventually is to give someone your login creds. Wifey's aunt has been dead 5 years and fools still wish her Happy Birthday every year and ask her how she's been.

Ha! That has become so true! Very different from what it looked like back in the beginning. One social network that I am incredibly impressed with that has remained the same (more or less) since its early years is Craigslist. They haven't sold out to advertising or modifying the results that show up based on paid posts. I continue to use CL as much now (if not more) than I did 5-7 years ago.
