Just received my '14 M5 VIN!
I received a fax from my dealer late yesterday giving me my 2014 M5's VIN number as of July 30th!
I have know idea at what stage in the build a vehicle receives it's VIN number; however I'm guessing fairly early. I expect it will be on a boat next week? Then of course who knows when the boat will leave port for LA? In any case I am expecting to see the car the first week in September or so. Last edited by utahm5; 08-04-2013 at 10:06 AM.. Hoping to be on a boat next week is optimistic. The good news is once it's loaded the vessel will be underway soon; generally less than 24 hours. You should have your car in September.

I was thinking the same thing!
Congrats to the OP, now starts the grueling process of tracking your car from the factory, to the port, on the water, to the port again, to the VPC and then finally to the dealer!! Enjoy, it all builds anticipation!!

It may be 1997 where you live however I have used eFax for at least two years now. Therefor when a dealer "faxes" a document, his words not mine, his fax machine OR eFax sends it as a .pdf.
So please pick your sorry butt off the floor smart ass. It's a figure of speech! |

i ordered my 2014 M5
July 1, finished production 3 weeks later arrived at dealership in los angeles august 30 the wiggle factor is two places 1. waiting for a place on a boat 2. clearing the VPC in Oxnard push the dealer to get an early boat spot and get your car to trailer ASAP online tracking lags by three to four days congrats and good luck |

All you can do with your dealer is ensure that your car is set to Priority One. Other than that there is no way to move your car along faster.
VIN # is assigned rather early in the process. You may track online via owners circle (delayed by around 3 days). However the best way to track vehicle status is by phone. -- After your vehicle production is complete there are some unknown time frames which are: 1. Vehicle in line waiting for carrier/train for transport to the port. 2. Vehicle will be at the port awaiting a boat. This can take up to two weeks in some cases. Normally it will get onto a boat in about one week. Your dealer can tell you what boat it is on once the status changes to en route. You can then lookup the boats schedule and track it across the ocean using iPhone apps.. West coast port destinations have a much longer travel time in the water to having to go through the Panama canal. Go to the thread in tracking section of this forum it has all this info even more detailed.

BMW Production Status Number:
(800) 831-1117,2,,0000000,1 -Add the above number to your contacts. -Replace the zeros with your seven digit vehicle prod number. -Save it as "M5 Status" and add it to your favorites for easy access. -Dial it on speaker and don't touch any keys. It will automatically navigate through the prompts.
