Do you use the Auto engine start/stop feature?

I know it suppose to save fuel during city/stop and go driving, but does it really work WELL on our M5? I feel it's more of a feature for regular F10 and not for the S63 engine?

The user manuals says "Using this system can cause certain components of the vehicle to become worn prematurely" WTF?

Do you use on your M5?

I use it all the time whenever I'm driving in D Mode, which is usually in heavy traffic. Over the life of the vehicle it will save a lot of gas I suppose. Most of the time I am in S Mode anyways, so whatever. Lol!

In Israel 3/4 of the taxi are Mercedes and at least my drivers use theirs all the time. I've used mine only twice to see if it worked. Actually I forget its even there

Can't do it to my M5. Just does not seem right. All the taxis in Germany used this feature too. My ED delivery specialist said it was safe to use but he would not use it himself due to the turbos cooling ect. Don't know how much to read in to that.

I had to chuckle when I first saw the disclaimer in the manual. Really makes you want to use it doesn't it!? It will only wear out your starter before its time. I had never used it once until I got the car back from having a curbed wheel repaired
and the service tech must have turned it on by accident (I hate leaving my car with anyone!) It surprised the heck out of me the first time it activated. I decided to leave it on to see what it was like and it does work pretty well, but after awhile I just found it annoying (and I kept thinking about the premature wear!) To heck with it, it can't save that much gas. A twin turbo V8 M5 isn't supposed to be a Prius after all.

I got mine programmed at the dealer to be 'Off' when i start the car so I never have to bother turning it off every time.

Never use it. Also have to turn it off everytime as the default position is on here which is quite annoying.

If you push the button to highlight it will stay off w/o programming. It's been a year since I tried it. My button highlights by default. Maybe others doesn't

In Town and "D" mode all the time, love it.
If in some slow town driving I like the "Idea" of saving fuel, weather it does or not I am not too sure.
UK driving conditions are vastly different than the US.

Whenever i turn on my car, the feature automatically enables again. But maybe its default on for European cars only. Does anyone know how to make it off by default?

Nope here in the UK it "defaults on", if it's a problem "press the button" if you have two hands that is

I guess that is a solution.. But I'm pretty sure we can have it disabled by default

Yea you can by coding, but does it really need that.
Most all my driving is out-of -town, so it does not come on constantly, and if in heavy traffic I turn it off to save other parts getting hammered, but it's useful from time to time to have it IMO.

14' US remembers your last setting . No need to code it. I guess Uk's defaults is different.

It's quite an annoying thing to me. The only times I used (accidentally) it was after a service, dealer turns that function on as always. No big deal, just need to press the button once and it won't come on until someone press it again.

Nope think it's the dumbest feature on a sports car. My 991S has the same stupid feature, it's a emission gimmick. It will cause unnecessary wear on the starter which is nonsense IMO. My gas guzzling Escalade needs it, if it was really about saving gas but it doesn't.
