I wish they would have an option of LED or updated headlights like 6 series or upcoming 7 series...

Interesting. HUD related maybe? If not I dont see how this would be a material change still.

Its not the "material" change, jsut something else changing in July, though it affects all F10, not just M5.

Well I'll be ordering an MY2013 so hopefully whatever the changes are they don't go backwards.

Power reduction in the car is not really that big an issue. Obviously it's a sensitive topic so that's why they stated no changes there.

not sure if it's related but my windscreen was a little scratched when the car was delivered, barely visible scratches from tree leaves or something. Dealership tried to put a 5 series windscreen but didn't work and they said that they have to order from Germany because "M5 has a very advanced windscreen". It was eventually delivered and replaced, everything is fine now.

Great...another $1500+ windshield to replace every 2-3 yrs.

Wonder if its worth getting glass coverage on my M5....never got it before but paying $$$ for a windshield is not that cool.

Sorry OT.

The M5 uses the exact same windscreen as any F10,F11 or F18.
But you need the correct one for your options, like HUD and lane departure.

Nothing special about the M5 alone as far as windshields are concerned.

Gonna be $10k I bet.

Be interesting if aftermarket brakes outperform the stock ones will be cheaper than PCCB.

Any info come out of NYIAS?

Here's the response we received when we asked BMW M yesterday on the 2013 M5 changes:

Quote:
It's nothing major. It's small things; it's electronics underneath, little computer things. It's definitely not customer-facing changes and not a great deal of functionality change.

As I posted earlier in the thread I was also told its not something major like was being speculated about on the forums.

Strange thing was the use of the worlds "material changes"

Confirmed changes so far for July:

1)Windscreen.
2)B&O sound system.
3)Carbon Ceramic Brakes.
4)Rain and Light Sensor.
5)About 4 Control modules ( none for the engine or gearbox)

In Canada, I spoke to my dealer this morning (fact to face) on the pending July announcement on upcoming changes to the M5 (MY2013). His contact @ BMW Canada head office says it's no longer the case as there will be NO electronics changes at all, not even the nav.. The only change is most likely be the latest software will be updated for the car. That is !

For those who are hoping & waiting ... No need to wait anymore.

When u guys say windscreen, is that synonymous with windshield? Im getting confused thinking the windscreen is something included if you have HUD.

I'm sure your dealer has no clue as to what is coming. BMW released a bulletin (posted here and elsewhere) that indicated that electronics changes were coming starting with July production and advised SA's to advise their prospective customers of the upcoming changes so they could decide whether to wait before placing an immediate order. If the changes were so immaterial as to go unnoticed by a new car owner, why would BMW have released the advise?? You should ask your dealer that question when you show him the bulletin and let us know what he says.

He was the one told me (back in March) about the July bulletin in the first place. I asked him why did BMW Canada released such statement when about 2 months later he was told by same people @ BMW Canada that they should not have issued such bulletin.

Anyway, his clients have also been asking this topic and he already told them no changes will happen at all.

In any case, he already said the wait time is now up to late July to early August delivery, if ordered today. Therefore, posssible minimal damage or not ?? is done to those who is going to order one.

He did say most of his clients do not care much to the possible electronics changes ... they just want to grab the car ASAP and enjoy the car over the summer months.

Look at Jason's post above where he gets an answer from BMWNA about the changes. It's nothing material at all - just underlying electronics changes and not customer facing things.

What you call a windshield we call a windscreen.
The big glass thing infront of the driver on any regular car.

There are control modules and sensors scheduled to change.
Whether this will be noticeable to the driver is another story, but the changes are scheduled.
