Best car seat placement?

For those of you who installed a car seat in your M5 (the ability to do this being a purchase driver), what did you find to be the optimal placement? The "backseat" area isn't huge so it's a little cramped...did you go with backseat middle or one of the sides?

Thanks in advance...

Infant rear facing seat or child forward facing? For the rear facing infant seat you are pretty limited. Unless the driver or passenger are especially short or like to drive with the seat very far forward, you are going to have to find a seat with a low back and put it in the middle. We used a Britax that was rated to 35lbs (I'm 6'4" and the wife is 5'11"). Once the child outgrows this seat, you can get a normal 65lbs rated seat and put it forward facing. We keep it behind the passenger seat since that one is usually a little further forward.

Rear facing - rear passenger seat. Recommended safety is middle but if need to do sides it is recommended that you do driver side because of your tendency to swing your side of car away for accident avoidance. I couldn't do that and still fit in the car. also, middle really doesn't work well. Best to take the car to one of the local places where they assist you with safe placement and fitting of child seats to ensure proper angle, etc. This is advised for rear facing. Not sure about front facing but prob. would do the same. Wife always handles this.

I chose the passenger side for my 2 yr old. I'll switch her to driver side since we have another one due very soon. Once the new addition arrives, I'll put the rear facing on the passenger side.

5 series is a pretty safe car, look at the side impact videos, everything stays intact pretty well.

Safest place is the center if you can swing it and I've seen it done with an infant seat.

I have 1 of each, so I use both rear passengers. Middle is safest, but a back killer trying to strain to get them in all the way without getting in the car yourself. Rear-facing goes behind me (but I'm only 5'7") so I can turn around and see my forward facing daughter in the Rear right passenger, but you'll end up putting the car seat wherever you can fit its we've done both. We have the Britax ones which have to be the largest freaking carseats on the market ( the ones with the side impact air cushions). The exposed latches make it real nice to move the seats in and out from one car to another if needed. FWIW... Try both sides and see which you like better!
