I tend to agree with dhirm5. The Vamoose Bus is the way to go. It leaves DC about every hour during the day and vice versa in NYC for the return trip. It will cost you about $30 per person each way- less expensive than gas, tolls and parking (but admittedly not as much fun as a M5). The buses are nice and clean; the staff polite and friendly. The Acela is also a great way to travel between DC and NYC, leaves about every hour, a little quicker than the bus, but much more expensive. In fact, my wife and daughter are heading up to NYC this weekend as well for a shopping trip and they're taking the Vamoose.

@RPiM5: you have my #, hit me up if you have questions/ need anything while here.
If you are in town to relax, I would avoid driving at all to get around, the waste of time/ traffic, crazy cab drivers, the bad roads, parking etc. Also with the current temp. it won't be pleasant to stay out too long. Make frequent stops indoors. As, for the car, the performance tires are just too dangerous to drive on for such a long trip/ low temps + risk of snow, you'll be forced to drive at 40 mph! And you may not like the parking situation/ attendants' handling of your baby; the only way is to self park but since you have company and you can only do that in select places, save yourself the hassle. |

I live on the UES and you don't want to be driving in the city during the holidays - its really no fun, between the construction and the holiday traffic most streets are grid locked for hours.
Get two FC tickets on the Accela if you're wanting to impress. And if you really have a hankering for driving something, try registering for Hertz On Demand. They rent cars by the hour and should/might have a ready supply for Fiat's for a whole lot less than most cabs rides. Good luck! |

Santa-thon
FYI -- Saturday is Santa-thon in NYC, and the revelers (aka drunks) will be congregating from Grand Central to lower Manhattan. Plus we are supposed to get a 1-3 inches of snow, and Manhattan is packed with tourists, so you may want to park uptown, and near either river, and go from there. Avoid going cross-town.

Thanks for all the advice guys. We had a great trip up to NYC. I'm definitely definitely glad I took the Fiat Abarth. It is completely covered in salt now! Gotta get it washed this week. The snow wasn't too bad, and we beat the brunt of the snow storm by a couple of hours. I got a ton of attention from the Abarth too. I had a lot of people ask about it and take pictures. I did see one random E60 M5 parked on a street in Manhattan. Boy is the driving crazy there. It's almost like playing bumper cars. We ended up using Uber to get around most of the time. Fantastic service.
