Anyone know exactly how this works? My best guess is that it's information retrieved from RTTI. Is that it or is there another source / where does the info come from? I wonder if the windshield mirror camera is used along with RTTI (very similar to how the speed sign detection works: data from GPS that is verified with the windshield camera; if it matches it shows in the HUD).
You only get these warnings if you have a destination entered and active in the iDrive navigation.

RTTI uses several sources, including BMW Assist telematics and RDS-TMC which is broadcast over FM radio frequencies. The camera has no role in providing RTTI data.
Cars equipped with satellite radio can also retrieve data from SiriusXM Traffic, I recall reading once.
