I really enjoy this feature on my M3. I just checked the standard features for my M5 (wherever it is visiting the US today hopefully to arrive at my dealer before they release the 2014 model) and it does say 20 way and "adjustable side support". Here's the link.
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ModelCode=135G Maybe the dealer will throw in some nice M logo pillows for the "adjustable" part. Then again I'd prolly get charged for "installing" them. |

I'm planning on bringing this up as well.
I hope the way it is worded in the standard features that the two adjustable parts of the head rest aren't what they are counting in the magic 20 number and referring to as adjustable... |

Very confusing, my first read (and when I ordered) I was thinking the car had the adjustable side supports on the seats, not just on the head. |

Would have to disagree. They create a more perfect fit for different body types. Not to mention them holding you in place during hard cornering. All my vehicles have had them and I always use them. I have a 2004 Merc that even has it!

More power to u for standing up for what u think is wrong but dont have a mini stroke if they pull the ol " we reserve the right to change specs from the website" wildcard. My suggestion? Live stroke free and enjoy the car when it gets here. P.s. if ud like me to sit the back seat and hold u in corners i will. I got overexcited with some special order requests on mine and need the money. Yes, it will cost u and no, i am not cheap. |

This really sucks we've had adjustable bolsters on every BMW we've had over the last seven years- M3s, E70 and E90. I can't believe they not only didn't include them but misled us about it too!!!

I think they must have screwed up during production not realizing the error. I'm not purchasing a first model year vehicle ever again. Even the US market car manual shows the buttons for the bolsters!

Those of you reading this thread doing ED should at the very least point out the problem when you are taking delivery. Afterall you are at BMW HQ and this is not an inconsequential error.

Wow, that sucks! I never bothered with my side bolsters the first year I had my M3, but the first time I tightened them up and went off for some spirited driving, I fell in love, and I was much faster and more confident at my next track weekend. This does sound like either a production error or a US advertising error. Ordinarily I'd think advertising error, but they clearly exist on non-US cars. On the other hand, production error seems unlikely too since the factory clearly has seats and button panels for the M multi-function seats sans bolsters. It's not like there's a hole in the button panel where the bolster adjusters should be, so it stands to reason that parts for this spec were intentionally developed for SOME purpose.
I don't see why airbags would be the culprit given that a) they exist on the M3, which has side airbags, and b) the bolsters exist on non-US M5s. Unless the side airbags are missing from non-US M5s??
