NoVa Police Encounter and Speeding
As many of you know Virginia is a little strict with its traffic laws. Pulled over today for nearly reckless in Arlington. I thought I was going 30mph but was apparently just shy of 50. I mentioned to the officer that I had no absolutely idea that I was going that fast (No HUD). The extremely cool officer tells me he drives an M3 and understands. He went back to his car and after some time came back with just two warnings for speed and tint. I was beyond shocked! Love M drivers!
My default next car is a F10 M5 CP which I understand is more "refined" than the E60 so how on earth do you guys not end up in jail!? Do you lose a sense of occasion with the more refinement? And if anyone knows an Arlington County Officer who drives an M3 and may be on the boards, I would like to thank him yet again.

Had a similar experience in MD on Clara Barton - doing like 75 - limit 45. He could have given me reckless, instead he gave me a warning with a wink - "must be hard keeping that thing at the speed limit". Whew!

The hud displays current speed and speed limit of the road you are on by gps data and the front camera capturing speed limit signs. It is easy not to speed with this display, but with so much power it is quite easy to find yourself speeding. Setting the speed limit warning display is very useful. I set it at 85 first, but had to up it to 100

Connected Drive displays on HUD what speed limit is. It is literally my saving grace. But regardless, M5s shrugs off speed more than teenagers shrug at your questions. JK...But seriously, glance at the speedo because you are usually going twice as fast as you thought you were

I drove from NY to Charlottesville two weeks ago in my M5 without incident. The Waze app on my iPhone picked up just about every speed trap along the way.

At 85 mph, you are only pulling around 2000 rpm in 7th gear, so you have no clue how fast you are going without some visual input. Got ticketed in NYC for allegedly doing over 80 in a 50 -- did not sense I was going so fast as I was concentrating on avoiding potholes, but 8 points if convicted, with a mandatory court appearance. Nonetheless, amazing cars.

Received a 60 in a 40 last night… Didn't even realize I was going that fast, and wasn't paying attention to the HUD, just trying to get home and I was the only car on the road. What really pisses me off is that my Escort 9500Ci didn't even chirp once. Apparently he got me with his In car mounted radar… but Im really disappointed my protection failed me a second time.

He told me he couldn't show me the reading because the device is mounted in his car… The escort has in the past alerted me to laser alerts and goes "laser shifting" and thats when I slow down and turn the system off temporarily. When passing through indiana on a road trip, I was hit with a laser and my passport said "laser shifting" and i thought I was in the clear but then he was right behind me. On the ticket it said he used a Lidar but at the time I didn't even bother to ask to see the reading on the gun. He could have been lying because he cited me for exactly 20 over when I was probably doing more.
I was pissed that my couple thousand dollar protection system failed me. this time it didn't even alert me or tell me of KA bands or laser which is really frustrating and I am 100% positive it was on and nothing was blocking the receptors. When I go to court I will ask what system was used to read my speed.

I personally was shocked at all the signals I'd been missing from police when I was just rolling around with laser jammers so if he shot you good nothing that radar detector would have done. Now if you were like running 9500ci and Quad interceptors and he got you then somethings going on hahaha. |

Yeah the OP never mentioned if he ever saw the cop ahead of him before he was pulled over. My guess is that he was paced from a distance.

There are three radar detectors that are able to detect these very short radar shots: Beltronics STiR+, Escort Redline and Valentine One. All of these detectors will not alert to the short signals out of the box, they must be set up with the proper user settings to detect them. For the STiR+ and Redline: RDR must be turned off, and you should turn off Ka segment 1. For the Valentine One, you should purchase the V1Connection for Android pair it with an Android phone, get the free app Yav1 from google play, turn off Ka Guard, and run scans that eliminate alerts below 33.7Ghz. As far as LIDAR, the a Escort shifters do a very poor job. The best laser jammers are the AntiLaser Priority. |

The ticket should list the device/method he used for your speed. |

I got paced in VA 72 in a 35 (going through the toll booth on the Dulles toll road into DC) Radar detector never made a sound. He was beside me in the HOV lanes on the other side of the barrier and I never saw him $500 fine and couldn't drive in VA for a few months. The judge was pissed because he couldn't give me any points or take my license because my I had just moved there and still had another state license and the state didn't have a points system
