Flooding in Port Newark

Well guys, I can't speak for any specific cars or models of cars but I've heard from first hand information that Port Newark had as much as 5' of water over the dock areas and there were literally thousands of new cars flooded at the port as a result of Hurricane Sandy's storm surge.

Here is a picture that my Cousin, who lives in the Bronx, NY posted today on Facebook. Hope the port in NJ wasn't as bad as this. Yikes!

My car is on the Turandot, and just docked in Halifax. I am taking PC Delivery, so I was just wondering, with the continuing problems at Port Elizabeth, if BMW might first make their PC Deliveries in Brunswick, GA, and then come back to NY. Does anyone have any information if that is happening?

Very unlikely. The ship has other ports of call after Brunswick, including Galveston more than likely. Backtracking to NJ would throw a week or more of scheduling off and would be a logistical nightmare.

If MarineTraffic.com is correct, and I am reading the information correctly, it looks like the Turandot (the ship that my car is on) skipped New York/New Jersey (after leaving Halifax), and appears headed to Virginia Beach. So maybe it will be unloading in Virginia Beach (an unscheduled stop) due to the problems in Port Elizabeth, or maybe it is on its way to Brunswick, Georgia, which is the next scheduled stop after NJ/NY. If it is the latter, I assume that the 11/5 arrival date in Brunswick might be moved up, and possibly, also my pick up date at the PC.

I'm doubtful the boat will backtrack so it could unload in VA Beach or Baltimore and then truck cars where needed for final delivery. Wallenius has contingency plans in place for situations like this. Baltimore has a BMW VPC and rail network access so it's a logical choice.

My car is on the Turandot also. It had to be rerouted because the port in NJ is closed at this time. It is now going to Baltimore's VPC. It is fully operational. It should arrive today or tomorrow.

My brother who lives in Brooklyn lost both his trucks and his basement was flooded....I'm trying to head up that way to help him out. the sad this is he just bought his Denali 2013 back in July.....
