2012 F10 BMW Shows Its Bumper and Engine. Most Revealing Pics Yet.
We bring you the most revealing F10 M5 photos yet. Save for some camouflage tape, the M5 front fascia design can be clearly seen. We last saw the M5's exposed bumper back in May, but not in this detail and not this exposed.
Compared to the standard F10 5-series, the F10 M5 front bumper is clearly more sculpted and angular, and features the trapezoidal design as seen on the current M3. Huge side air inlets flank the center trapezoid grill. The wheels are still the BBS FI wheels we've previously seen, but which are purely for testing. The more recent wheel design we've seen were recently posted, and are closer to the X6M wheels in design. Also seen for the first time in these photos is the M5's S63 motor (4.4L twin turbo, twin scroll, direct injection V8 from the X6M/X5M). The S63 is expected to be tweaked for the M5 to produce more power than the X6M/X5M. We believe it could come in at the 585-600hp mark. As it was a hot day at the Nurburgring, the M5's hood was opened for cool down and monitoring/testing. The 2012 M5 is expected to premier at the 2011 Frankfurt IAA autoshow in September 2011. Is not agressive enough!!!I doesn't inspire fear like e60 m5!!!
I think this design of the new 5 series can not be made agressive!! It's like taking a sheep and dressed it in leather jacket ; it will still be a sheep!! But nevertheless it is a beautyful car!! |

Looks great! The front bumper looks consistent with the speculative renderings.
Can't wait to see the real rear bumper design.

I have a hunch that this new M5 will be a failure. I drove a regular 5-series and it's incredibly large and wobbly. I really doubt they can do enough to make it handle like a true sports car.

You know, I thought the same when the E39 5-Series and especially when the E60 5-series came out. The cars seemed to be larger and softer then their predecessor and I thought the M version wouldn't be that good. But BMW ///M pulled it off each time perfectly, and IMO the E60 M5 > E39 M5 > E34 M5. So by whatever magic potion they have over there, they are able to keep the M5 as a spectacular machine over the generations, I for one have very high hopes with this car...

It won't be a failure, but it will have some stiff competition. The E63 will get the new AMG 5.5L twin turbo. That powerplant also will eventually go into the lighter C63 sedan and new coupe. The upcoming tt AMG's will be beasts!

The problem is, AMG hasn't made a decent transmission and suspension system for their cars. Not to rival the M division vehicles IMHO. To the poster who said that the car didn't drive very sporty, did it have Sport pack and Adaptive Drive? I have driven the 550i loaded, and I think it is a very capable car. Remember, these AREN'T sports cars, but sport sedans. So...

It kind of looks like its yawning and about to fall asleep with the bumper and those eye lids in the headlights, haha.
I like it though, I think it will be a good looking car when it's done. The front end really does resemble a shark from the side, it's cool. I'm more worried about losing the vicious M sound with the turbo virus going around. |

seems like only slightly more aggressive Msport. I get the feeling that newer BMW M cars wont be having a shouty body kit like the M3 or M5 of today. Sucks. I don't like restrained, let Msport be that.

That M-diff better start working harder! That's too much tire smoke off the inside tire...
