Beat up by ZL1! So mad!!!!!

Can anyone teach me how to start my 2013 M5 real fast? I just got beat up by a Camaron ZL1 on the street today. I adjusted everything into sport plus with auto shift, traction control on. But then, it beat me after I reached 40mph.

After I got beat up by ZL1, I went back and practiced starting during the night (safely). However, I noticed the rmp at the first gear will stuck at 3000~4000 for like 0.6 sec then rise when the traction control was on. Obviously it slowed down the car from starting off. I turned off the traction control, which the shifting became much smoother but the car was wiggling so badly. I got scared afterward, so I turned off immediately.

Is there any other method that allows me to start off my m5 like a beast and also remain stable???

Shit, that sucks. That car has some muscle though. I know what you mean about 1st gear which is why I use manual sometimes. Here are the specs on the Zl1, no pussy cat. I would be curious on what our bros say on this matter.

It’s the most technologically advanced Camaro ever. With a 6.2L supercharged engine it delivers an impressive 580 horsepower16 and 556 lb.-ft. of torque. The kind of high-tech power that punches the 0–60 clock in just 3.9 seconds.

More HP and less weight... Why SHOULDN'T the ZL1 give an M5 a run for its money?

The LSA engine may be rated higher than the S63TU, but in reality the S63TU produces much more hp. My old CTS-V's LSA (mated to an auto tranny) put down 463rwhp on a Dynojet dyno. That was on par with most other stock automatic CTS-V. The manual cars would putting down closer to 500whp. The LSA is rated at 556hp at the crank in the CTS-V and 580hp in the ZL1. So even if the ZL1 is a manual putting down say 500whp, it still weighs early 4,100lbs. If the ZL1 has an auto, it will probably put down under 500whp but probably be faster in the real world than a manual car where time will be lost in the shifts. The average DCT equipped M5 will have a better real world power to weight ratio and much more efficient shifting.

The reason you saw RPM stuck is because of DSC took action.
At hard acceleration, your wheels start spinning and car is becoming unstable. In order to avoid this, DSC takes action, applies brake and cuts the engine. your car moves forward and then DSC releases the power and disengages the brakes and let car go smoothly.
When you turn the traction on (MDM) you give DSC some freedom to put down more power and torque and that's why you felt wiggling.
when you turn off the DSC completely, then it is the deal between Man and machine and you have to control the car by yourself without any help of ECU. Anyways, I believe M5 can beat ZL1 but you need some experiences. I recommend you to go to BMW Performance driving school if you are interested in having some skills. Don't follow people experiences since this car is so powerful and you can easily lose the control.

Suspension in comfort, everything else sport plus, DSC off. I embarassed a ZL1 using Launch control, albeit looking like a complete tool for using it lol

I was trying to get one to do a 40 roll with me today and post it... He won't come out... I haven't seen any good stock dynos from that car and I'm guessing you lost due to throttle modulation, which our cars should get off the line faster than that thing..

I think MDM is pretty easy to correct for most people in a straight line... Now DSC OFF completely then its a crapshoot haha

If he had full traction on and put it in D mode and mashed lol and the ZL1 driver knew his car even a tad bit.. I can see him losing.

OP DO NOT JUST GO STRAIGHT TO TRACTION OFF... I learned traction off on my M3 and even that was a handful lol I couldn't imagine trying to learn it on the fly on this car. If you're getting scared work with MDM in safe ares where you can't mess up too bad [or get tickets], or head to performance school.

Ok. I own both cars.

The ZL1 stock puts out 500 rwhp. A pulley, CAI, and tune brings you to 600+ rwhp. Easily and for about 1800.00.

Stock for stock the ZL1 won't touch the M5.

So I suspect 3 cases here:

1. ZL1 was tuned/pullied/CAI putting out 600+ rwhp.

2. M driver doesn't know car very well yet.

3. 1 and 2.

For the record and stock for stock and in a straight line equals M5 win. On a road course ZL1 wins all day.

You are right MDM is pretty easy to correct in a straight line if the asphalt is hard. On soft asphalt still there is skidding like 3-4 feet which is enough to hit the car next to you. As far as DSC off you referred, M5 is completely different compare to M3 E9X since it has much more power and torque so it needs more experience. For sure you have it but not many people have this experience. It needs time to get used to it

It would alot nicer if the m5 lost a few pounds. I know for me, I do feel the weight of the car in the corners, but I ensure that I set my speed and maintain it before apply any exit throttle. The lighter cars like the camero does well against the M. But the M does well against the corvette which is also a lighter car.
