M5 Track day at VIR

Did a couple of track days with the old girl past weekend. I must say it was a LOT more fun that I was expecting, moves and corners like a much lighter car. The stock rubber which were new for this track day did an awesome job, the brakes are amazing, smoking and all. Threshold breaking from 150MPH to 30 never felt so good, trail breaking was confidence inspiring. Used MDM mode with Sport Plus everything to great effect, I have new love for this car, and will definitely be doing more track days.

And now a video, sorry for the poor iPhone quality, but my Gopro refused to cooperate.

Lucky. Was this at an HPDE? My instructor didn't trust me with MDM when I drove VIR last year despite my plethora of track experience and I didn't get to enjoy the track like I wanted to, that's why I say you are lucky.

As per BMWCCA, my instructor has told me that the club is not allowed to recommend or advise on using or not using traction control!

VIR looks more suited to the heavy M5 than I thought it would be. Lots of run off too, nice for pushing the limits. I've got to get qualified for the M class track days! VIR seems a better choice than Road Atlanta. Thanks for posting.

This was a TrackDaze HPDE, there was no instructor the whole three days. I have however done BMWCCA with the instructor about two weeks ago at VIR North and he asked me how come I was not rolling on the power in turn uphill, to which I said cause the electronic nanny is cutting the power. He said well you should probably turn that off if you like, so I did, by off I mean I turned it to MDM mode, not off, I am not stupid :-). Much fun ensued.

Harry's Laptime on iOS, connected to ODB2 Wifi and XGPS160 10Hz bluetooth. It is honestly a better setup than the dedicated Traqmate and other boxes IMHO anyway.

Nice! VIR is a fun track. All of the Tar Heel and National Capital CCA members need to come out to the United Sports Car race in August.

Tarheel and National Capital Chapters of BMW CCA are excited to announce that we will have a Car Corral and Reception Tent during this event. We look forward to offering our CCA members and their guests, a great place to watch the races with food, fun, and fellowship of other BMW enthusiasts. Registration is now open on the VIR website. Be sure to choose the Car Corral Packages and then select the BMW Car Club Corral or enter the link below. Be sure to book your local accommodations NOW. Things are filling up fast. We look forward to seeing you there.

See here for tix. Who knows, you just might win an M School. I have two friends that did, attending the car corrals last year.

Bone stock. I did have the Akari Full system installed, but did not personally like it, so sold it a few months ago to someone of this forum actually. Considering a couple of power related upgrades, and a set of track only tires, not sure if anything can really improve over the awesome MPSS.

Quiet :-) but they do the job, hope you are enjoying the Akari, certainly missed them on the track day. Am actually considering more doing a couple of mods to the old girl. You should consider coming up for track day or two next month.

I'll certainly be at the track again before the end if the year.. I love the exhaust- I'm now tempted to get the same brand for the M3
