Car is randomly unlocking itself
As per the title....So this has happened a few times now but strangely enough it only seems to happen when im hovering around the car...
I initially thought I may be pressing the button by accident when the keys were in my pocket but even when I hold the key in my hands it still happens sometime... incidently as well...the comfort access mechanism on one of the doors has stopped working..I can open from this door but cant lock from this door but this may be a separate issue... Just worried that one day I may go to my car to find it has unlocked itself! Can any of this be related to battery? Ive had no warnings but would it be worth me changing the battery on my key fob anyway to see if it helps? Cheers |

Had similar issue with my F10. Ended up being a bad comfort access door handle. It would lock and unlock right after I got out of the car, lock as i came close to the car, and other erratic behavior.
I thought mine was battery related at first. Took into BMW to confirm and they told me it was drivers door handle CA issue. They also told me it would need to be coded (which it did not) I ordered one off getbmwparts, disconnected battery, installed, and all has been well. Hope this helps! Good luck.

I have read about others with the same issue. It is a comfort access issue as stated earlier. Should be covered under warranty as theirs was as well.

Hmm ... my 550i xDrive and my M5 both do this when washing and fob is in proximity. Not touching door handle ... thought it was normal as all of my Corvettes have done the same ...

I have that sometimes when the war is washed and waxed in a washbox drivetru. For some reason the wax on the doorhandles is triggering the comfort access. Cleaning the handle does work for me.

A door handle is probably bad. It only happens when the fob is in range. This can be observed on ista if you or someone you know has it. In not, any decent Indy bmw shop or dealer can deal with this for you if you have a consistent problem now.

For washing I find it's better to leave the fob inside the house out of range to avoid unnecessary lock action or accidentally opening the trunk.

Comfort Access Issue
My 2012 535i xDrive has a similar issue. If I walk near the right rear quarter panel the car repeatedly tries to unlock (whether locked or unlocked). The right rear door handle was replaced under CPO, and I have disconnected the handle and this does not resolve the problem. I also get notifications that the remote is not recognized by the car and will not start without placing the remote near the steering column. I occasionally get the battery low / disconnected message. Most of this, except the unlocking, is intermittent. About to disconnect the front door as well to confirm that's not the issue (I really don't think it is as the unlocking starts as soon as I walk around the rear of the car), but could it be related to the computer / fuse panel located in the rear passenger quarter?

Have same issue and similar symptoms. My driver door handle CA is dead, i believe this is the issue. I will be replacing the handle and going from there. I thought my key fob battery was dead, a few times wouldn't let me start the car, and sometimes won't lock despite multiple button presses.
