Did you happen to check the volts when the message came up? I just got my M5 last week and while cleaning it I had the doors open and getting aquatinted with the car I got the message that battery was discharged and electronics shutting down. I checked the volts and it read 12.5v. From my research these cars are very picky with the electronics. Many shorts trips etc and the battery doesn't get a full charge. It has been recommended to use a battery tender for (ASM) batteries. Hooked up my tender and no issues. Maybe that's what's happening to you. GL though

The electrical systems are very sensitive in these cars. If you don't drive it for longer distances you may get that warning.
I put mine on a CTEK battery charger about once a week overnight and that tops up the battery.
CTEK is one of the best IMO, they make them for BMW who rebrands them as their own.

Did you leave your phone plugged in without properly shutting down the car?

Had this problem before. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong with the car either. They then started looking into the comfort access system testing all the door handles and found one of them was only working half the time. It would only lock/unlock by touching about half the time. Turned out to be a faulty door handle that was causing the battery drain and it never threw any errors. New door handle was ordered and after it was changed never had this issue again.

Glad they figured it out, electrical issues can be the worst! I would still consider a battery tender if you dont drive the car much or only do short trips. GL!

I saw a post last year on this issue. Another member heard from his SA that a contributing factor is the BMW Efficient Dynamics. The alternator only engages to charge the battery when decelerating. Apparently most American's driving style is heavy use of the brakes and less so engine breaking. If you generally don't engine break it'll take longer drive times to charge the battery.

Just a FYI on batteries - if you use a trickle charger, make sure the battery is in good condition and the car is in a reasonably ventilated area - batteries on charge can discharge hydrogen and when this comes into contact with a point of ignition, there is an exothermic reaction, as in kaboom !

Supposed to be every over oil change according to the service bulletin for it.

The cooling system on the vehicle is known for killing batteries, especially if you drive short distances on the regular.

I had to fight BMW of Nashville to replace mine recently because it was dying and discharging within a couple hours. They eventually replaced the battery and well has been well.
