It is inevitable...

It is inevitable that at some point one of us will suffer an engine problem/failure past warranty or that will not be covered under warranty.

If I recall correctly, engine replacement (long block only) is north of 20K on the F10 M5. So that got me thinking, and I thought I would throw a couple of questions out for discussion.

First, if you want an option other that full replacements (aka rebuild) of the engine, where do you your S63Tu that isn't a dealer? AMS comes to mind now that they are in a position to work with the ECU side of things, but surely there are others that board members can contribute to the list.

Also, if you were to some day end of in this situation, what the thoughts on taking the opportunity during the rebuild to install a stroker kit like the one here: https://www.pureperformancemotorspor...d-pistons.html ?

Great questions. I hope none of us have to ever experience engine problems w or w/o mods.

Is difficult to say till we experience it, some said the engine can hold till 800hp which I think should be much much more than that hopefully.....

But can the axel handle that power. Hopefully we can get some cars over 700 plus.

This won't help for the internals of the M5 differential, but AMS mentioned this company in a post, http://www.driveshaftshop.com and it looks like they have the capability to help with the CV joints and axles. For those who want to go to big HP numbers.

Definitely agree...Problems will probably be with drivetrain, gearbox or rear axle, not engine itself unless wild gains are added.
The reality is that BMW warranty on these other components are what stresses them the most about aftermarket enhancements.

I think if you were to pro-actively do rods pistons and sort of replace the motor's weak areas, you would want to do the same in the other typical problematic focal points.
Send your DCT to Shep and have them build a billet gear set for it to pair up to some Dodson clutches. Probably send your differential to Shep as well for similar treatment and perhaps a gear swap. Then driveshaft shop will send you a driveshaft and output shafts that are rated 1000hp or what not and the rest is really up to a good installer to piece the components together. You'll need to figure a bunch of stuff out like fueling etc... But again a good shop can piece those elements together

P1 Motorcars in Stamford CT does stuff like this all the time, and they are the best!!
