Cheap-O fix is to wire the bypass flaps open.

Akrapovic and Dinan have no drone.
I have installed and driven both exhaust systems and I really enjoy the exhaust note.

For the money of some aftermarket exhausts consider adding downpipes for improved sound, little to no drone with stock exhaust and improvement in performance.

Found this:

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=761453

should be similar for our cars but not 100% sure
allot on this forum have done it

I went the route of the exhaustmeister
allot of debate on this subject on older threads
Some can wire this thing in 5 minutes for 4$ others like myself (not mechanical at all) chose exhaustmeister which may be a "cleaner" approach and allows OEM operation of the flaps or opening at press of button .

You can also get the turner rear pipes that just deletes mufflers. Cheap mode but not sure about drone.

Buying a Dinan exhaust during their 15% off sale would be the most inexpensive non drone exhaust for F10 M5.

I have Turner. I guess what you get around 1800 RPM is what can be called Drone. The exhuast gets loud and deep there. This only happens to me when I'm on the freeway in 7th and not going fast enough. If I put the DCT into Transmission mode 3, the car stays in 6th at those speeds, and you stay out of that rpm range. Other than that, it is sure louder.

I have Turner and while it sounds ok on the streets, it's absolutely unbearable driving on the highway in 7th gear at 60 mph between 1500-2000 rpm

If you are leasing the M Performance exhaust (Akrapovic) can be port installed and residualized into your lease payment. The MPE is $7,915 wholesale with Ti tips but approximately $2,500 to my lease or roughly $70.00 per month.

If you go the aftermarket route and factor in exhaust price including install/removal and market value on the exhaust in 36 months when I pull it off to sell it, the MPE (Akrapovic) was a easy decision.

The MPE also happens to have 0 drone, impeccable build quality, amazing looks and IMO the perfect sound compromise of a subtle in your face exotic tone that allows you to sound like an adult when necessary and still makes my sons friends

I didn't have the opportunity to see or hear the Akrapovic on the F10 before I ordered so if you are anywhere near Westlake/Thousand Oaks I'd gladly meet up to show you.

If the MPE has only been PARTIALLY residualized into your lease (i.e. you stated only about $2,500 of its total cost has been placed into your lease), you WILL NOT be able to remove and keep it -- via replacing with the the OEM exhaust -- before you return the car to BMW, unless you pay BMW Financial the DIFFERENCE between the approx $2,500 portion residualized on the lease, and the actual full initial cost of the exhaust and tips, etc.

E-Sport rear-section and no drone whatsoever. Cold starts are a "bit" loud and characteristically beastly WOT is growly and fun. This is one of the setups that maintain the stealth personality of the M5.

You MISSED the point. I UNDERSTAND the exhaust stays on the vehicle.

The OP stated he was leasing and didn't want to spend much $. Now that BMW allows this exhaust to be residualized, he could install the MPE system for $70.00 per month or $2,500 total out of pocket for a top shelf product with 0 drone.
I have done the aftermarket route for wheels, suspension, exhaust.. etc..and dealt with the hassles of installing, storing the OEM parts , removal, and depreciation when selling. In your opinion what would be the cost to purchase/install a Akra exhaust ? 2nd hand market price in 36 months? </> $2,500 ?

IMO the MPE port installed was the best use of my $ and time.
