Will I miss my M3?

I recently got an incredible deal on just the car I was looking for - Silverstone w/Black Merino, Executive Package, Drivers Assist and 20" wheels. It was the last day of June and the dealer took my under invoice offer much to my surprise. Thanks to this forum I knew enough about the car and the price to jump on it. I have only put about 100 miles on the car so far and I am respecting the break-in protocol so I haven't pushed it at all yet. It's a wonderful machine, smooth and luxurious, love the HUD and all the other bells and whistles that my M3 doesn't
have (the ride is SO much nicer, I guess I'm getting old). That's the main reason I bought the M5, an upgrade all-around. A lot of people complain about the size of the M5 but it doesn't seem all that big to me - just a little longer tham my daughter's 2003 Honda Accord - no big deal. Even though I feel that the M5 is better than my M3 in many ways, I still feel like the E92 M3 is one of the best cars ever made and I am afraid that I will miss it (I haven't sold my 2008 yet, it only has 28,000 miles on it and is as tight as a drum). That great 4.0 V8 combined with DCT is almost telepathic in its response to your right foot. I have never understood the lack of torque complaint. Yes, you need to rev it to get to the power band but that's just a blink of an eye downshift away. Will I miss that? I haven't felt the monster torque of the M5 yet so I hope that will be as satisfying as the m3's responsiveness. Have any of you gone from an M3 to an M5? I would love to hear what you think. I am really having a hard time parting with baby brother (keeping 2 M cars would not go over too well in my household so I have to lose one or the other). Am I crazy to think about keeping the M3 over the M5? The M5 will make me (mostly) forget the M3, right?

If you can keep both. Both cars are legends in their own right. If the choice has to be made to keep one or the other. You really can't go wrong with either as well. Just depends on what you truly want. You have to find the answer within yourself. But yeah, I'd wait until you are at least done with the Break-In period on the M5 before you make any kind of irrational decision. The F10 M5 will knock your socks off for sure!

I had the E90 M3 in 2011 and it was a great car, I then bought the F10 550i M Sport and did not mis the M3 for one day.
I am picking up my LCI M5 1st September and can't wait. You will soon forget the M3.

Once you feel the torque of the fully lit M5, you will be smitten. There is a big surge of torque and power, that you have no idea about yet, if you are running in. Make no mistake, and i will say this first, compared to the M5, the M3 has no torque. If you like to rev to find the power, the M3 is great, and it is a more nimble car than the M5, but the M5 is the powerhouse of the two. Only you can decide, and its a nice decision to make.

Hmm. I went from 09 M3 to 11 550i M thrash. 550i was a caprice classic. My M5 has made me forget both.

I agree with Dave...wait until the break in is complete. Then do two things back to back in both cars:

- Find a good twisty road (Laureles Grade?) and drive it HARD.
- Find an empty wide area and turn off DSC..hoon it a bit.

Pick the car that you had the most fun in. If you turn around when you get out of one of the cars to look at it, that is a pretty damn good reason to keep it

you will not miss your m3. i don't, that's how i know. unless you track incessantly and strip down your m3 for that, the m5 does everything the m3 does better on a daily basis. plus it's got m5 cache, which the m3 will never have.

Depends on how much you enjoyed your M3 and how you used it daily. I miss my RS4 on tight technical roads, but I do not miss its awful ride and peeling interior trim. I miss all my past cars to some extent, but it doesn't hinder my enjoyment of the M5 one single bit.

I miss my M3's handling on smooth roads.

I also miss listening to the exhaust of the M3 while working thru the 6 MT.

There are plenty things I DON'T miss however... 😉

I'm sure someone will declare that about the all mighty F10 M5 one day. Just not today.

I traded in my 2011 E93 M3 for an F10 M5 and six months later, I took delivery of my 2013 E92 M3. I missed the chassis and the S65. The M5 is a super sedan and offers me the luxury, creature comfort, and out of this world performance while the M3 offers me a raw driving experience, a perfect dynamic balance. It will arguably become a legend. It is the best of both worlds. My advice would be to keep both if you can. They are both amazing cars and I absolutely love them both. BTW, I do find myself driving the M5 more with the M3 doing weekend and track duty.

I have both and I'll be keeping my e90 m3 for as long as I can. The m5 is a great daily but there's so much electronics that could go out once it ages. I'm not gonna keep it past warranty.

I have both and whenever I drive the M5 too much over a period of 2 weeks without touching the M3, i will miss it badly and have to climb back behind the M3 for some S65 music and sharper handling. If u love the S65, u will miss the M3.

If you are looking for engine sound your have arrived at wrong brand. Audi R8, Viper, 458, 14 GT3, may be the cars for you.

I have two kids that are growing so my M3 wasn't going to cut it. BUT my daughters thought it was waaaay cooler than my current M5. Do I miss it? Yes. Would I go back to an E92? No, because cars get better. Would I have just stuck with it until the M4 yes

Love my M5, but my E92 with the S65 and exhaust will always have a special place in my heart. If I could justify having both, I would pick up a 2013 E92 and keep it forever!
