BMW Replaced my 2013 M5 with a new 2014 LCI M5 Competition

This is my first reply or post but I felt that I should let you guys know what BMW did for me. I had a 2013 M5 which had a issue with constant DSC failure as well as ICM failure. After multiple replacements of both in the first 3500 miles, BMW replaced my original M5 with a new fully loaded 2014 M5 including the Competition Package. Shouldn't say loaded...no CCB...

How common is this???

very rare. these cars are usually very reliable. the only warranty claim on my car during 8500 miles has been one of the tires - and that was a michelin defect.

Does BMW typically replace a whole car?

If it is a situation where the car is eligible for a lemon law buyback, then they may well replace the whole car. A lemon law buyback hurts BMW because the resale of your old car is very low once it is tagged a lemon on the title by the DMV. Especially with high end performance cars.

So they are better off replacing your car which allows them to repair and resell your old car on their own terms and keep the title intact.

I haven't seen this done on an M5 before, but there are a few people with F10 550is who have had this. In cases where car was lemon law eligible they did a replacement. In cases where it was not, they did a long-block replacement (where they replace the entire power train which is $35,000 in parts alone on a 550i).

Man, this proves that BMW must have either:

A. Not gotten the Side Bolster Adjustment seats DOT approved in time for the 2013 model year.

B. Said to hell with Americans and their F10 M5, they'll never notice that the buttons are missing, even though the original order manual stated 20-way seats, but then changed their minds because we called BMW Customer Relations for 2 months straight and yelled at them.

C. Were planning on re-including them in the 2014 F10 M5 anyway, but kept it a secret and forgot to mention it when they announced the LCI M5, hoping that no-one would notice that the buttons were back.

D. Just plain old wanted to infuriate 2013 F10 M5 owners just for the fun of it.

I wonder which one it really is.
All of the above

Just looking at the OP's beautiful lowered car leaves no doubt, if you order a 2014 M5 you must get the competition package.

Nice B.day present.
Congrats in advance and on your new toy!
As for your bold choice, i say you did the right thing, an M should stand out a little.
Perhaps an M5 less so than an M4.
But it's your choice and B.day, so enjoy!
Nice cap to go along!

Subject: BMW F10 M5 Missing Side Adjustment

To whom it may concern,

I just purchased my F10 M5 which was delivered on August 27.When I originally ordered this car your documentation reflected 20 way power adjustable seats with side adjustments. Upon car delivery the side adjustable support mechanism is missing. Im very disappointed the seats are missing this feature making them only 18 way adjustable seats now, which is clearly different than what I ordered. My dealer has directed my to you to resolve this matter

I look forward to a resolution of this matter, either a seat replacement or financial credit.

Thank You,

Another tidbit on the seats...

I might be fanning the flame here, but...

My dealer gave me a set of the BMW All-Weather (rubber) floor mats. I went to put them in and the rear mats do not fit. I thought maybe they gave me the wrong ones or maybe they're GT floor mats. Nope. Correct part number. I had to stop by my dealer again today and I brought them with me. They fit perfect in a 2013 5 series they had on the floor. On my car, the seat rails that attach to the floorboard come much further back to the rear. I don't know if this allows for more seat travel or what, but if anyone is thinking of trying to retrofit 2014 seats into a 2013, I doubt they'd fit.

My dealer will be contacting BMW NA on Monday to find out what's up and whether new LCI 5 series mats are coming.

I usually get Weathertech mats for winter use. Good thing I didn't order yet.
