Not M5 versus, more like M5 + ?

After this winter I think I need something for the winter, not because the M5 isn’t capable, it is with Blizzaks. But with all the potholes and rocks all over I’d rather get something I’m not as worried about, plus the wife wants her own car.

I’ve narrowed my search down to a Jeep Wrangler Willys Unlimited. I’ve posted over on Wrangler Forum, but was wondering who here had experience with Wranglers and could offer any insight in terms of options etc.

The options are a bit confusing but sounds like on the Willys I need the W package to get power locks and doors, AC is standard (but not on the 2-door).

Anyone know anything about U Connect 130 versus 430 and whether or not I need the premium sound? Also getting a hardtop and auto tranny.

Im sure some of you have Wranglers as a compliment to youtr M5s and would love to hear – if anyone has a good sales associate in NNJ please lemme know as well.

TIA

I just picked up a Grand Cherokee Overland Ecodiesel which is a fantastic vehicle. I have the top of the line U-Connect system and it is well worth the money. If Chrysler placed the diesel and 8 speed auto in the Wrangler they wouldn't be able to make enough of them; it's a great drivetrain.

So what does the UConnect 430 offer over the 130? Do you get a touch screen with both?

I have a wrangler rubicon unlimited that I drive in the winter and off road. It's a fantastic purpose built vehicle. Polar opposite from the M5 but equally as good at what it is designed to do. If you are looking at wranglers join tread lightly. For a low cost membership you will get your jeep 1% under invoice. Well worth it. I went with AEV mods on mine and it is unstoppable. I haven't seen the willy's edition but I'm sure it's cool with that heritage. Good luck! As far as options go I added everything. So much cheaper than BMW or Porsche options it's hard to resist.

Agreed. I went with a loaded up Sahara. Modding these things is lots of fun. So much to choose from. I actually love this vehicle so much, its a tough choice deciding which to drive sometimes. Ofcourse, the weather plays a part. You cant go wrong with a wrangler. Get it loaded. You wont be sorry.

This is why I like it paired with the F10 - Polar opposite.

I looked into Tread Lightly, looks like some people on the Wrangler Forum mentioned that if u just threw that out there in negotiation some dealers would go as low as 2% below invoice. Such a different shopping experience though, a great deal works out to like $2k off.

OP
My brother just got his Willys edition JKU jeep and loves it. The carbon metallic paint is really quite spectacular. His has windup windows and manual locks which slipped by him. It has many of the goodies that my Rubicon has minus the electronic sway bar disconnect and a few other items. I got my rubi in the fall and boy way i glad i didnt go the blizzak route. I wont do much offroading but i hit home depot and the nursury for soil bags and stuff so its ideal. The m5 is so refined its nice to have something that can get salty and be parked anywhere.
I went with thr Anvil color which was a special edition color in 2013 for the 10th anniv edition but now is open to all wrangler models. I adore the features, accessories and look of my JKU... You cant go wrong

Here you go. All in various degrees of dirty. That's what's great about a jeep though. It actually cleans up pretty well but I never take any pics in that state.

Exactly what I wanted to hear, went into a Jeep dealership today, negotiated 1% below invoice and was done with it. Should have it in 6-8 weeks - funny how this wait isnt a big deal compared to waiting for the M5. Like you, my JKU probably wont ever see a rock trail, but it is nice to be able to go out and not worry about your car so much, especially with all the potholes this winter. And its nice to have something that can fit all my summer tires in when it comes time to put the 20s back on.

I did a bunch of research over on Wrangler Forum and learned the differences of all the packages, which is why I chose the Willys Wheeler W, I wanted power locks and windows, as well as side air bags.

I ended up getting it in Granite Crystal, what color is your brothers?

What size tires are those? And what type are they? A/T? My Willys is coming with Mud Terrain tires, so I think I'll need something else for winter.

They are goodyear Wrangler Duratracs in 315 70 r17. They are great. I commute with them, drive them off road, and they are winter rated for snow as well. I would definitely get them again. They are big though and a lift is needed for that size tire. I'm at 3.5". AEV now makes a 2.5" which I would probably do next time instead. Ground clearance has never been an issue but parking garage clearance can be. My total height is 6'5" which is usually fine but low garages are tight. I sold my stocks and got a reasonable amount back. Again if you are used to BMW prices modding a Jeep is so much fun as price is rarely an issue.

I read really good things about the Duratrec tires, but they dont seem to come in my size, 255/75/17. Since "it's the wife's Jeep" it wont be lifted, but im readng bad things about mud tires in winter.

And yes, I looked up some simple mods, everything is like 20% the cost of an M5 mod.

Mine is not as fancy as the above example, but with some small touches like spacers, headlights and some clear corners, I'm pretty happy.

Wrong move man. Best winter car is Carrera 4S. Vic approved!

Your car is more intended for invading the desert.

I am also considering a Wrangler but going with a 2 door sport with minimum options. I checked used but they hold their value so well it's almost pointless.

I sold my second car when I moved about 6 months ago and this is the first time in many years I've only had 1 car. I like DDing the M5 but want something else as well to play with and take anywhere I may not wanna drive the M5
