8 weeks since ED drop off and waiting

So yesterday was exactly 8 weeks since I dropped off my M5 in Amsterdam. I decided that I would give BMW their 6-8 week window until I started to really complain, and now that time has come.

My girlfriend also dropped off her 335i at the same time as me in Amsterdam, she got her car 2 weeks ago. My car was on a different ground transport, different ship, and different VPC than hers. When I inquired to the drop off about why mine was taking longer to get on a ship they told me they forgot to send a fax to the shipping company.

The car finally reached the VPC in NJ on 11/8 and has been there since. I got some information from the BMW NA ED department that there was a "scratch" on my bumper and they needed to repair it (there was no damage when I dropped the car off). They also told me that because it is frozen brilliant white that it will take much longer to repair because they need to order the paint. The latest status update they gave me was that it might be released from the VPC on Friday and they have it market as a "hot unit".

This same exact thing happened to my 2009 335i ED a few years ago, my car sat at the VPC for a long time because it had bumper damage in transit. I know a few other members on here have also had similar issues. How is it possible there can be so much in transit damage to these cars? I really wish that BMW would just communicate better on exactly what is going on with your car while in transit.

Sorry to hear about your delay, but that's a great pic of your car!

Just under 3% of all BMW's (ED and non-ED aggregate) incur shipping damage enroute and require repair at the VDC. The total percentage of ED cars requiring VDC repair is higher since they were subjected to road conditions and truck shipping.

ED cars don't clear US customs en mass on the boat like US Delivery cars - they are a special case and clear US customs and US Ag inspections individually.

I hope you receive your car soon

What do you mean by road conditions? As in other driving the car during ED transport back to the uS?

The ED cars are loaded and unloaded on open transport trailers at least once; US delivery cars travel to the port via rail. Remote logistics locations, i.e., Amsterdam, can result in more than one load/unload cycle depending on ??? The VDC inspection of ED cars is usually very thorough after an exterior wash and can uncover damage unseen while the owners were enjoying their new ride in Europe.

Still don't have it, someone from the ED office just called and offered to cover one months payment because of the delay, even though I used third party financing. They couldn't even give me an ETA, just said that they are waiting on the paint from Germany...
