Any track impressions?

I'm trying to consolidate my cars and would like to get a family car that's trackable. I know I absolutely loathed tracking my e63 m6, but I'm hoping this chassis is more advanced? Fat chance but I'd like to here your track impressions.

I have 2 kids,2 &3 yrs old, and I do hpde events about 7-10 times a year. It would be great to throw my family in and just drive vs towing my z06 every where

Rob ///M5 is one of the only people I know that has tracked the M5 besides the BMW ///M Performance School. There is a thread about his experience around here somewhere.

Besides, haven't you ever seen this before?!

Thanks, I'm just hoping for the best and looking for a justification to buy another car not sure a car like this exists, unfortunately.

Hi

Re tracking the M5 - I guess it depends where you are on your track driving "journey".

I got right into it bought an m3 did 20 or so days over two years, then one day thought huh that was cool. (That and a modded GTR ripped past me in the wet probably 100kph faster than me, and I was going too fast - nuts, the driver was fully depending on their ESC - total madness, straight into pit lane and home!)

However please dont get that impression of track days - just pick the right ones! Which leads me to the M5, I have two kids, go biking and surfing all the time, the M5 is perfect!

And it still does this, see below :-) when on the odd occasion I think yep, time to get on track! And no its not an m3 by gee its really something to take to the track!

Cheers
stu

2013 BMW M5  [10.00]
It's too big for much track duty...still laps stock E92 M3s though

I'd say wait for the F8x M3/M4. With the torque of these new engines and the weight savings they are targeting, it looks to be a perfect all rounder. Time will tell.

I took mine to Sepang circuit last week, and did an identical time as compared with my cayman S, which is my dedicated trackcar. the car's handling is impressive, more of if you considered that is a four door sedan weighting close to 2 tons. The brakes however gets spongy after about 4 laps...

RPiM5 is right, the car is over 2 tons and isn't really suited for a tight and twisty track. But, I see you're in SoCal and the Willow Springs big track would be fun for the M5. You could get your adrenaline pumping with full throttle over the hump in turn 6 and then hold it as long as you dare through 7 and 8! After the slow down for 9, again full throttle to 1 and then throttle maintenance through the long sweeper of turn 2. Streets of Willow would be less fun, but challenging for car control.

Depends on your priorities for family vs track I suppose and I'd rate the M5 more of a family car with some track capabilities. I believe Rob///M5 is right and wait for the latest edition of BMW M-think to see what they'll come up with.

Laps "most" E9x M3s...some of us could barely hold off the F1x cars!

And +100 on the F8x car...it is going to be legendary.

Thanks so much for all of the inputs, it seems like I'm asking for a larger m3 that's not any heavier....

The f10 m5 does seem to be a step ahead of the e60 m5 on track, even with the extra weight. Maybe the only way to find out would be to schedule a m track day with an m5
